Camp bed for sale ( Midrealm near Cincinnati Ohio )

Post by Baron Conal »

I've decided to sell my camp bed to motivate myself to
build a new one. I want to go with a darker stain to
better match the rest of my camp furniture.

Image

I probably should have done this before Pennsic but....

Its made to fit a queen sized air mattress.
It is a rope bed and it will come with the bed
wrench for tightening the ropes.

I've heard lots of negative stories about rope
beds, but I'm betting those beds where either
not built correctly or not tightened properly.
I would HIGHLY recommend a good rope bed for
both comfort and for not having to transport
the slats.

I'll include the curtains and canopy but not the
bedspread.

I'm asking $400.00 but I am willing to consider
barter or trade for a portion of that.

Also willing to listen to offers...

I've even used this bed as a bed in my guest room
( when we had a guest room before Emma...lol )and
I have made one for someone that uses it as his normal
bed. He has NO issues with the ropes stretching and
sagging. It has only needed to be re-tightened occasionally
even under daily use. ( occasionally being every few
months )

Some 'meeting in the middle type' delivery might be the best
way to get this to the buyer and I am willing to try to work out
that kind of thing. There are some long pieces to this bed so
shipping probably would be on the pricey end of things..... Unless
we figure out a way to use a shipping company that is not like
FedEx.... but I have never shipped anything that way.

Happy to answer questions.

Ya know, I had the same notion. Sell the old bed which will force me to make a new one. That was about 4 years ago...

Wife is still not happy with me. :)

Does putting an air mattress on a rope bed help at all in terms of the air mattress itself sagging? My girlfriend absolutely HATES air mattresses, so we're using a camp cot right now, but I'd love to upgrade to a rope bed.

The ropes help prevent the bottoming out on the slats feeling you
get with a soft/under-inflated air mattress. But the air mattress itself
still needs to be as full as it is designed to be.

The ropes being tightened correctly and the center support
do help even if the mattress leaks. You get something like
two hammocks and it is still pretty comfy.

A futon mattress is a possibility too, even one of the cheap ones
( but I'm not sure about how the size of the bed an mattress would
match up exactly ) The

I'm considering a straw ( not hay ) mattress and a feather
bed mattress topper
as an alternative to the air mattress...

You would need to be able to find straw need the campsite
and be able to dispose of it after but it would have the leaking
issues of a air mattress.... and it would be more period....

McTavish has done this with his bed at home and his fiancée likes it
it that tells you anything about it.

Adding a rug on top of the ropes then the Air mattress will help even out the stress points.

I've used a canvas pad ( three layers of canvas ) and a sleeping bag
also.

My wife and I use a few blankets on top of the ropes, No matress, and find it verry comfy. But my ropes are only about 4" apart.

The type of rope used will determine how often you need to retighten as well. Don't use crap nylon strings that the hardware stores are trying to pass of as ropes.

I think your cross-beam is the key to why your rope bed works, and I think it is a fantastic design!

Your cross-beam makes it so that the weight of the two people do not sink into the center! Fantastic approach.

Any rope under load, no matter how tightly stretched, will form an arc. With no support in the middle, this means that two people will sink to the same location, which is annoying. Your design lets each person have their own slight cavity to sleep in. Brilliant!

Pictures?

As what percentage of the deal? I'd like to have
some cash in the deal ( unless I just cannot pass
up the offered item... but that is negotiable )
