What I do. Hardened leather armor, Viking storyteller.

What I am interested in, primarily a Norse hilted rapier, Norse style fencing helm, Norse wooden furniture (especially a slat bed from the Gokstad ship, the one with the carved headboard and some benches.)

M'Lord I do believe that you are referring to the bed found in the Oseberg Dig. The bed found in the Gokstad Dig has the "thistles" on the bed posts. I merely am correcting you so that those that may wish to help you on this, may do so without confusion...

You are correct that is the bed I want to have.
Thank you, I should have double checked my references. I am constantly getting the things from those two ships mixed up.

I have seen them for as little as $150 but around $300 is the normal range for a solid student level one.

I make SCA heavy legal carved rattan wasters in a variety of sizes and styles (http://foxknife.com for more info)

Image

I am in the middle of changing over my gear for SCA heavy combat to something centered on 1370. I'm looking for a Charles de Blois grande assiette pourpoint, a fox face for my shield (to create a relief effect), a corrazina breastplate, cased greaves, etc. When I have a color choice, I tend to go for white and shades of red (scarlet, burgundy, cordovan) with touches of black or grey; but I consider fit far more important than appearance.

I'm also looking for a cheaper way to transport a quantity of rattan from Indianapolis to Sioux City.

What I can do:

Leather goods and leather armour:

http://s87.photobucket.com/profile/renjunkie

Also in there are some wooden wasters and leather headed sparring weapons I do.

I also do woodworking. And unfortunately other than the wasters, I don't have any pics of that. I am about to get into shieldmaking and will be able to do those or blanks if you prefer.

What I am in need of:

Most important item is a sword. I'd prefer an Alchem Safeflex blade in the widest width they make and 35 or 36 inches long as I am still trying not to blow up my dance partners when I land a shot. Simple cruciform hilt, wheel/disc pommel. The idea is to try and go in an Oakeshott type XII or XIII sort of direction. Alchem doesn't offer a hilt model like that, so I'm willing to take the pieces separately. The blade is the hardest for me to afford right now. Anyone who can make the other parts are encouraged to contact me.

Second item is a canvas tent. Period-ish is good enough. Would love a round as it fits my 13thC impression best. Will take a Civil War era wall tent...lol. I'll do a wedge, but it's gotta be very tall, about 10' high seems ok. I'm 6'4" and the parts I can stand up in get narrow real quick. Other than me being able to stand up and get dressed, most important criteria is that it is water proof and not mildewed.

Thanks!

JT - can/should we clean out the posts here that do not fit the format?
( including this one if the housecleaning is done.... )

Do we need to consider a sister thread for the kinds of posts that are here
