Hidden Body Armour for sale-pics added of Churburgs!

Post by Lucas »

I have two sets of body armour for sale. They are made of .188 (roughly 3/16") ABS plastic, one side smooth, and one side haircell finish.

They are
-heat-molded
-drilled for ventilation
-bomb-proof. (Ok maybe no bombs, but they can take SCA sword strikes forever.)
-sanded smooth, including all holes and edges.

I made these with the intent of A) getting early period people some fairly easily-hidden body armour, and B) Getting some newer folks an inexpensive option that offers real protection.

In the photos below, they are not strapped fully yet, but will be before I ship them. You will be able to pull it out of the box, put it on, and go fight!

For sizing, please measure directly around your body from your navel.
One kit will fit a measurement of 35-40 inches, and the other 40-45 inches.

$90 each, not including shipping. I will figure out the cheapest method for shipping with each individual buyer.

Please wear a tunic over your kit!!!!!!
rg
Interested in the larger of these... how long before you think they will make it out to the buyer?

If you have a few 1/2" buckles lying around, ( I ran out, but already cut out all the leather,) I can ship today. Otherwise, I can ship on Friday. Figure 2-3 business days for it to reach you, so you'd have it in hand by weds. At the latest.

deburr

Post by waveicle »

Hey Lucas -

Pardon the intrusion. I use a deburring tool for cleaning up holes instead of sanding (and for beveling edges.) I think it gives better finish and control. You can also use the tool on lots of steel armour applications.

No intrusion. I deburr the holes first with a punch that has serrated edges; one twist and the hole is completely smooth internally. But I would like to get away from sanding. Perhaps I'll pick up one of those, thanks!

Ill take dibs on the larger one then, and I have plenty of strapping stuffs lying around to be able to finish that part on my own.

The last question I have is the height of the breast plate itself. I have a rather tall torso and have had issues with hip/lower gut exposure blows really sucking a lot - how tall is the front of the breast plate?

Replied to in PM. But to add one more thing: If you strap it so that it sits at your navel, it will serve as great kidney/rib protection.

Which type of cherbourg? Single globose type, segmented, what?

Looking forward to seeing the pics of finished product and pricing.

Not meaning any insult but it's spelled.

Looking forward to see the breastplates.

Yup, you're right-Churburg it is. I always get in confused with Cherbourg, the battle-within-a-battle when the Allies landed at Normandy.

Breastplate construction:

Connection: I'm using heavy oz leather and solid steel and brass rivets.
