Ice brought these by the shop yesterday and I was really impressed with them. The elbow pocket is placed where it needs to be and allows excellent arm movement and the thickness of the padding should work well with out excessive bulk.

Can you give guidance on what maximum chest measurements the various sizes fit? What material is shell and the batting?

I wear a size 44R coat, what size should I go with? M or L?

The website didn't say anything about the materials used in its construction. Is that outer layer polyester?

100% cotton with cotton batting.
I have a 49 inch chest and the XL seems to fit nicely. I will say that they fit like a fitted garment. I thought that I would not have room to fight once I had it on but found much to my delight that it fit perfect and gave me exactly the movement I was looking for in an arming cote, without all of the extra material bunching in areas that make it difficult while throwing blows.

These are based on standard t-shirt sizes. You should be good to go ordering the size you usually wear in a T-shirt. You can always exchange if you need to. They are not cut very full in the waist but have more of an athletic fit.

Regretfully,
I cannot buy these "off the rack".. Being one of those short guys with a wide chest and very short arms, The elbows never line up without taking them apart and raising the arms...

There is some adjustability to the coats but you might have an issue if you are built like a fire plug.

(Great guys to have in your front line!)
It is still cheaper to get something like this and have it altered if you are close to a standard size.

Ohh I know. I have two of them already needing altered. Was giving some thought to a third (two for heavy one for Rapier). Aside from the need of alterations I truly like them...
