Any interest in Flight Helmets? Possible trades?

Post by fokker210 »

Hello !
Besides my interest in all things armour, I have always been a collector of military flight helmets, both vintage and modern.

Just curious if anyone else here had a similar interest and wanted to see if a possible trade might be worked out. Whether you already have something you might be willing to part with or maybe one of the smiths here at the boards might see something they like.

My particular armour interest is gothic German, sallets, etc.

Again, just testing the waters.....
Here are a few photos of some of my flight gear....

Thats a fantastic collection.

I've been a pilot for almost 24 years now, I've flown everything from a Piper J3 to an F-15B and everything in between for the Air Force and civilian life.

I'm a HUGE fan of anything Luftwaffe (lets face it, the top 10 German pilots of WW2 shot down more plane than ALL the allied aces combined, the top three aces alone shot down nearly 1000 aircraft).

The Spandau on top and the early Fokker control stick is fantastic too.

That collection makes me jealous! I wish I had something to trade for you.

Many thanks !
Actually, the control stick and Spandau ( one of a pair ) are replicas I have constructed for a full size Fokker triplane I have been building over the past six years. I probably have about four years left until she is flying - cant wait to get her in the air !

That's awesome. Make sure your heirs keep the collection intact- it will surely become the Churburg Armory of 500 years from now. :)

a DR.1? Nice! I'm actually working on a 85% scale Fokker D.VIII. Love the Flying Razor.

I wish I still had my sallet. I sold it to a fine fellow in Japan several months ago.

My armour is German, but a bit earlier than the gothic stuff started (1390 for me). I really do wish I could help you out, you have some great Gentex stuff as well as WW2 flight helmets there. Not to mention the great WW2 luftwaffe officer (looks like officers from that angle) flight boots with the flare cartridges.

I'm a huge fan of WW2 aviation history (not so big on WW1 other than the Fokker D.VII and D.VIII)

come on over to seattle, we'll head over to boeings museum where they have a DR8 in thier WWI collection. I'll take any excuse to go to an aircraft museum. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting two or three in this part of the state.

Holy crap... I'm a milsurp collector too, but my main focus is on gas masks. When I get my dream house built, I want a display very similar to yours. That's beyond words man, really really great. :D

I don't have any flight helmets in my collection, but if you have any gas masks I might be interested in trading with you.

Do you just have the mask, or do you have anything with it? I've seen a few for sale in the past, but they've all been new and fairly expensive.

wow thats a nice collection. Ive always wanted a pilots helmet. Ive been an F-15 mechanic for ten years down in portland ore. with the 142nd FW. great aircraft, i never want to work on anything else. one of these days ill go up in one. What are you willing to trade for one of those newer flight helmets? that would be really cool to have. maybe i can find something you would be interested in.

You might want to talk to Sir Gaston... He has a great Space flight item collection and has an entire Prop (movie not plane) shop at his command.
If nothing else He might be able to hook you up with a collector that can help you.

PS has to be said.. My favorite flying joke Punchline: " No.. no.. that Fokker was flying a Messerschmidt."

I really really like the helmet on the bottom left (of the whole shelf).

What kind of a value would that have if considering a trade.
