Does someone have a pair of gauntlets sitting around they aren't using? I want to get into the spear and polearm game.

I can trade for or buy outright...

Hi,

We have in stock a lovely pair of articulated hand made gauntlets.

Our price is £159.99 + P&P from England.

http://www.re-enactmentsupplies.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=84

They are 18 Gauge steel and ideal for use in re-enactments/full contact battles.

Thanks,

Steve

I've heard that some of Bokalos are the best value for your money, especially if you're looking for inexpensive gauntlets that still protect you.

Personally, I'm viewing it as being totally worth it to buy some Grettir Gauntlets for my first pair. I want to be able to hold a pen after I encounter a hand hunter.

I hear good things about Andy Ward's Gauntlets, which are cheap, and apparently tanklike. I'm getting some pretty quick.

We use 18 Gauge as the minimum re-enactment thickeness over here. I re-enact with the wars of the roses federation and have done for the past 6 and a half years using my own armour without a problem!

We* all use 18 gauge for our gauntlets, but not them**.
SCA fighter want gauntlets that resists years of weekly abuse without denting deformation and so on. Unless they are spring steel, they would last few month in their hands.... ON their hands :D

*: from the reenactment world
**: SCAdians

Other than this there are specific armour regulations under which thing must be built, unless things are made especially for SCA, they don't conform to the rules.

(I find odd that these explanation must come from me, that I have nothing to do with them, but you can't expect good manners on friday :D from the average archivers).

Plus you guys in Europe get to go to the doctor if you break something. Most of use in the US are S.O.L. pretty much forever if we get seriously injured.

Back on topic: I've got a pair of Ashcraft Baker clamshells for a medium (regular) hand developing rust in my closet. Definitely not dented. $60 shipped CONUS.

Thanks guys! I dont have huge hands, but I am 6'3" so that is a bit relative. I tried a pair of the medium egg gauntlets and they were too small, so I am guessing that puts me in the large catagory. Sorry for not including a size to begin with...

I am 6'6", so I can understand the relativity factor.

I have a pair of mild steel gaunts that I could let go. They are solid.

What type of gauntlets were you looking for?

What is your price range?

Is personna/time period a factor?

I am looking to spend no more than 100$ for a pair of mild steel gauntlets... this would change based on condition and materials. I am not so worried about time period, as gauntlets are not period for my time anyway... I will probably end up covering or painting them to look as unobtrusive as possible.

PM Sent to everyone who has offered up a pair...

If he doesn't take them PLEASE talk to me!
I'm local and while only 6'1" I have pretty large hands

We have the LARGE egg gaunts in stock and ready to ship. They are not as pretty as some of the mild steel gaunts but they will last for a long time without getting dented and are some great gants for the price.

Check out Chad's recent post. He's selling a pair of Box gauntlets for $100. Not pretty, but they look pretty stout.

Would you be willing to allow someone to strike your fingers, with moderate to full force with a 1.25 inch+ rattan baton, while wearing these?

I think the points been made. Sufficient for use against most steel reenacters does not mean sufficient for use by someone who's going to get pounded on by a mace/club. But yeah, glad it was caught by someone, 18ga is really thin, especially for non-spring steel.
