My roommate is going to enter a HEMA Longsword Tourney next month and needs to buy a Gorget... But he has only $50. THe requirements are the same as for an SCA gorget, but with the thinner weapons I didn't want to recommend anything that would get him, in his one year of experience, gakked.
But I have spaced on where to buy good gorgets for around $50.
Help?

How about WinterTree Crafts? Their gorgets come in a range of heights and sizes. They're stainless steel backed with leather and have sturdy straps. I believe they run about $40 or $50.
Brigandine gorgets are very comfortable, but make sure the space between plates is smaller than the tips of the swords in use.

+1 Eric makes nice gear and teaches HEMA/WMA so is likely to understand the needs of each activity.

Sorry,
I don't teach that stuff, but do supply several groups that do

My apologies. I forget that the longsword wasters probably have larger tips than SCA rapier blunts (I sold off a Chivalry Bookshelf brig gorget because the spacing between plates was wider than an SCA rapier tip, as I found out from a hard shot to the throat).
