WTB: Braies & chauses

Post by caniswalensis »

What is the best deal to be had on real linen Braies & chauses?

All my old stuff is falling apart, so I am in need of 4-5 sets, but do not want to pay hundreds of dollars if I can help it.

Thanks, Bran

I just picked some up (as a set) from Historic Enterprises. Good deal.

Thank you, Guillaume

That is about the best deal I have seen so far. They make pretty good stuff, too.

I am still looking at $70 bucks for a set of Braies & chauses, so that is a total of $280 for four sets. That's a bit much for me right now.

I was hoping there is someone out there who makes them for extra cash and not as a full time business that might go a little lower. Something like that. I was hoping to find something for about $45 as set. Am I being unrealistic? If so, I will just have to scale back and be a bit more stinky at war. :)

Regards, Bran

I am uninterested in making you chausses or braies

BUT

I can teach you to make your own either Saturday or Sunday. The braies are easiest, if you just make those, that will knock some $ off your expense. Hose are a little more difficult to make as well as what you can buy, but if you have ankle boots, we can make the style without feet pretty easy.

I intend to sew pretty much all weekend regardless.

If your serious about making the brais what would be looking at cost wise? I need a size one bigger then HE carries. What kind of time frame could we be talking about it? I would have money later in the week at GW if that is a possibility. I can get the dimensions from the set I have from HE tonight.

No, I think you misunderstand. I am already sewing for too many people. My own wardrobe is falling apart. I am not making you anything. I am not sewing for income. No one wants to pay my hourly rate to have me sew. However, some time I can show you how to make your own. You and your lady can either drive over to my house for a few hours, bringing your own linen and ribbon or cord for the waistband. I will teach you for free.

Or you can drive to Louisville for a Sunday practice and I can walk you through it there. You can sew, and I'll show you what to do between bouts.

Jess I am struck by what you have said here and wanted to comment.

Your time is both valuable & limited. So much so that you will not even consider taking money to sew for people.

Yet, you freely give of your valuable time to help & instruct your fellow fighters learn to do for themselves.

You are what is best about the SCA.

Sincerely, Bran
