I am looking to get back into sca heavy combat and I have a pair of elephant ivory 1911 grips to trade. They are stamped on the back " Hand Crafted For Colt Firearms" and are for a full size or commander 1911 with a single side thumb safety, they are the slim version and you will need thin grip screws and bushings. I am needing a 14th century helm for sca heavy combat, pm if interested , thanks.

I have a Clang great helm on the shelf.

However as a poster with only one post... we tend to be a bit leery.

Can you post or send pics. I'm interested if it can fit my 23 1/4" brain pan. As for being new to the site I can understand people being leery. To ease any concerns if we do decide to trade, I can ship the item via USPS Priority, insured with delivery conformation. When you get the item you can then ship out the helm. damn, i wish i'd had a helm for barter. Those would look dead sexy on my late father-in-law's civilian market .45 that he bought to carry though WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. Seems he wasn't a big fan of the .38 revolver that the Army Air Corps (later Air Force) wanted to issue him as a fighter pilot.

He never wanted it to be a mantelpiece gun, it was his nightstand gun and occasional carry piece after he retired. Its my primary sidearm now. Just went to the range with a buddy a couple of days ago to teach him how to use his first pistol.... A couple of strings with Betty and he was clearly regretting his space-age 9mm. I'd never butcher it up to make a bells-and-whistles carry piece, cause a stock Colt Government is pretty solid right out of the box for a right-hander. But something classy like ivory grips that would patina well until I pass it on to the next generation? Yeah, that would work for me, and probably him too. Robby wasnt above a little tinkering. He'd had adjustable sights and an aftermarket bushing installed and had the trigger smoothed out.

I guess I look at it like I'm honoring his memory by using it like he did, rather than putting it up on a shelf. It's not like the old girl is going to wear out any time soon.

I will say the ivory grips certainly changed my .45's personality.
I was afraid they would be a little slick, but no problem I still have a fine grip.

Although I think most of that is due to the fine design of the weapon.

All this talking about the old girl, and I had to go off and do some research about her. Seems she'd be worth somewhere at or north of $2500, had she not been modified. At some point, im guessing in Hawaii enroute to Viet Nam due to the parts used, Robby had a gunsmith checker the forestrap, install a set of Smith & Wesson adjustable revolver sights, tune up the trigger, and fit a tighter bushing. All the mods mean that any collector value is gone. Honestly, I feel a little relieved that im not putting wear and tear on a very monetarily valuable piece.

Wish I could find that smith and shake his hand. The work is BEAUTIFUL. the checkering is perfectly parallel and all the tiny little checkers are still there. the channel he cut into the top of the slide for the sights is perfectly straight and flush to the sight parts. Hal, I'd have a hard time deciding who did the better work, this smith on my pistol, or your 14th C sabots (yes, I bookmarked that thread, its armor porn). To be fair and accurate you should send me a pair so that I can compare the work up close!

Also, damn those grips look sexy on the gun. Puts me in mind of a suit of black and white plate.

Got my helm from Halberds today and it's great. The transaction was as smooth as his ivory grips, 5 out of 5. Thanks again for the transaction sir.
I hope all of my transactions on AA go this good.
