Hey
You might want to check with your local barony or local fighter practice.
Most people will help you out are point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps.

Re: mace an sword..
I think the hive in this case means your local chapter (possibly leveraged through connections here on the archive). I'm not 100% sure. I would definitely start with the local chapter though. A lot of times people will have a spare you can use at practice or even take home if you are really lucky.
However, and I am a noob too so salt this to taste, but it seems pretty standard to make (and be able to make and maintain) your own swords. Several guys I've talked to go through a couple swords in a fighting season, so they need to be replaced pretty often. They're pretty simple to make (there are a bunch of tutorials on the web and on youtube), you just need a few things:
1. Rattan - I get mine from Icefalcon. Despite the fact that his gear is pricey (on the "get what you pay for" philosophy I'm told) his rattan is quite reasonable and it's high quality. Frank's Cane and Rush is a good source too I hear. Both will cut a stave into three sword lengths for you which will cut the unit cost and the shipping. If you can't shave it at home, Foxknife (Thomas MacFinn here on the archive) sells pre-cut wasters.
2. A basket (not necessary if you want to get some other hardware and a full gaunt, but certainly a popular choice) - baldar is popular but there are a bunch out there. I got two baldar cup hilts from Dark Victory for $65 I think. You can probably get one cheaper posting here or asking around wherever you are.
3. Tape - strapping tape, 2 colors duct tape, and probably some tape for the grip.
4. Hose clamps - big enough to fit around the rattan.
5. A piece of leather or nylon strapping to use for a trigger (optional).
6. A closed cell foam pad if you want a thrusting tip (optional).
For tips on construction, I went here (http://www.robertkarl.org/woodworkingbl ... sword.html) but there are a lot of videos and instruction lists out there.
Hope this helps. Don't mean to say you have to make your own stuff, but it seems to me that being able to make something that wears out periodically, and is not too expensive (especially after you have the basket), is a good idea.

Re: mace an sword..
Howdy this is Cassius the Baron of Wiesenfeuer (Oklahoma City)
On Wednesday the 22nd of June (tomorrow) we are having an armoring meeting at Camp Dakani off of I-35 and Hefner road behind frontier city. We are making armor and weapons and helping those that want to learn as well. It starts about 7ish and will go for a few hours. Let me know if you need rattan as I am sure there will be some there for purchase and some may be there to have as well but not sure. We have had a side of armoring leather (8-10 oz) donated so we will be making gorgets and kidney belts and vambraces for anyone that needs them. Come on by and meet folks at least and who knows you may find what you are looking for.
