Project for Non-pro armourers

Post by Galon »

I am taking bids for articulated knees, articulated elbows, a gorget, and pauldrons.

this is for someone who is not a pro but wants to get practice and is willing to have their work scrutinized by an editor.

Any takers?

(important note: price will have a lot to do with my choices, also speed that it can be done in)

I don't claim to be a pro so do I count. Curios are you looking for period or just functional and some what period. Articulated Knees with central flute and scallop with a heart shaped wing and matching elboes 5 lame construction for 130 simple spaulders to match 70 and a gorget with single floating lame 65 plus shipping I could possible have them in about 3 weeks. If your looking for nice historic with raised cops and 2-3 lame floating gorget we'll have to talk I could possible have a set done by end of August though. http://thadenarmory.com

I could do such things, and I could do them fast and fairly cheap, but...

I dropped articulated elbows and knees from my site since I consider my skills crappy in that area...

so why did I reply??? I don't know.

If I had something to cut steel with, I could help you with the articulated knees and elbows and possibly the gorget. Our shear will be here on June 22nd (hopefully) but we won't get to mess with it until the week of the 25th.

Galon, I consider myself semi-pro but I can pull these off the shelf right now.

Brig gorget $60
Art Elbow $65
Art Knee $75

Total $200

I'll sell them to you for $180

We're all professional armourers when we accept money for raiment. Though none of us seem to be professional enough when the rent comes due.

Galon, perhaps it would help if you gave us an idea of what price range you are fishing for... at least it would let us know what you are looking for.

Okay I will make you a set of articulated knees and articulated elbows for free yes free, BUT they will be made from aluminum, and it will take me awhile, we are currently remodeling my whole house! (it may take me till the end of august to get them done) I might do them in steel with alum. lames.

How does that sound?

How big is your neck? I built a gorget from a pattern I traded from Pathfinder. I can just about fit my head through it without opening it Image. 18g ss looks like this one marked Gorget from Pathfinder's web site. I'll measure it up after I find the rear collar tomorrow. Just needs some edge work and the strapping. Providing you can wait till after Quad War(July 1st long weekend, Antir, Avacal), where I hope to day trip and plan on showing off some gear, its yours for shipping costs if it'll fit. Unpolished, unless I get bored, but don't count on me getting that bored Image.

I might take you up on it, Galon. I'm currently working on a sword, but haven't decided what my next project will be. I was already thinking about making some stock pieces for practice, so this might be right up my alley... There's also no way I could qualify as a professional armourer. Image

Galon,
Here's an example of my previous work:
http://www.cs.ou.edu/~bacchus/CrowArmour.bmp
That's my girlfriend in the armour I made for her (actually the first, and so far only, pair of arms and legs that I've made.)

For something similar, I'd probably ask $50 for the pauldrons, $80 for arms, and $140 for legs of a similar style. Of course style, price, and everything else is negotiable since I'm by no means a pro...

Galon, not meaning this in any way good, bad, or indifferent... was what you were looking for basically a donation of armour for review (most likely by a new/inexperienced armourer) so they could gain showcase for their work, and in return, you'd get some armour (for whatever purpose)... not a bad deal really, if that's what is intended.

But what you got is responses from a bunch of semi-pros who all want $$$ for their work as they are used to selling it?

is that about what you had in mind?

I thought perhaps if the above is the case, that perhaps some clarification might speed up your project... and perhaps get some responses from the folks you are after, instead of those of us who sell armour on a regular basis.

what I was looking for was someone who wanted to build elbows, knees, gorget and pauldrons for about $100. I wasnt looking for donations, I have kind of given up on anything like that, people dont donate much anymore.

The reason I had to back out is that in stage 2 of getting Kero over here, I am looking at having to set aside an additional $1500 for the Adjustment of Status, I wasnt expecting this so I have had to scrap all plans until she is home.

No misdirection or anything like that, just me having to take care of my family first.
