WTK About Therion Arms Helm-Solved
This one
http://www.therionarms.com/reenact/ther ... c1106.html
Has anyone bought this or something similar from them? Would it be sustainable for SCA combat?
Thanks in advance.

Ask Hal (Therion). He has been fighting forever, and knows his stuff.

It is 14 gauge, but it would prob be too close for enough padding, and who knows if the eye slits are legal.
You can prob pick up a barrel helm like that pretty cheap here on AA.
Where are you in Al ? I know a lot of guys that can help.

After a second look, I think it wouldn't give enough room for your nose. It also looks way to short in the back.
Look at this crusader helm elsewhere on the forum.... See how the nasal/face area projects out from the brow?
This what you.need.

Re: WTK About Therion Arms Helm
Thanks Maeryk and Yojimbo
@ Yojimbo: I see where your coming from now that you mention it. I love the helm that IROR is selling but unfortunately it is out of my price range for right now
. So I guess I'll just make my helm and pray that it doesn't look like a total piece of crud.
Again thanks for the info. Oh almost forgot I'm sorta close to Birmingham.

Buy a kit from Zweihammer.
He has a crusader kit that can be built pretty similarly to the one you are looking at.
My helmet is a close cousin to the kit being built out of some of the spare parts Erik had kicking about after he built the first helmet.
He is a hell of a nice guy and I am sure he would be happy to see you into one of his pieces.

Yeah, the GDFB Topfhelm is not for the large-nosed. As Meryk said, I've been fighting forever, and large-nosed even longer.

Try hjalmr here on AA. He does entry level helms, and recently had a crusader listed.

What's your head size? I have a Hjalmr round nose crusader I took in trade. I'll get pics in the morning but it is a "munitions" grade helm.

This one is likely too big, it'll fit a 24" comfy
