PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Hello everyone!
I want to present myself and my craft. My name is Piotr Feret and I deal with historical reconstruction since 2002. I'm re-enacting the medieval silesian kinght Hannus von Atze who take part in Grunwald battle. For about 6 years I'm making armour. At first it was just a hobby but now it is also my job. Here are some examples of my current work:
Hardened breastplate with skirt based on exposition of men-at-arms from altar in Pistoia cathedral, dated about 1370 c. The breastplate is raised on hot from C45 medium carbon steel of 1,5 mm thickness, fauld is made from 50HF spring steel. Final hardness is 38 - 42 HRC = 372 - 416 VHP :
Full arm harness for late XIV c. Fully made from medium carbon steel of various thickness 1 mm; 1,2 mm and 1,5 mm.:
Full leg harness based on Churburg S18 harness. Fully made from medium carbon steel of various thickness 1 mm; 1,2 mm and 1,5 mm. The weight of full legs is only about 6,2 kg:
Hourglass gauntlets made on hot without welding from C45 medium carbon steel of 1,5 mm and 1 mm (fingers plates) thickness. Weight of one gauntlets is about 700-800 grams. There are a reproduction of gauntlets from effigy of polish prince Henryk Pobozny:
Some photos during the gauntlets forging:
My first hundsgugel bascinet. Helmet based on A69 visored bascinet from Wallace Collection.
The skull was welded from two hot raised 2,5 mm steel pieces but the visor was made from one 2 mm steel piece:
Some pictures during the production fo helmet:
More picture of this any some others armour elements which I made you can find on my website http://www.platener.eu
I you are interested in my work please contact me.

Amazing work on your website.
Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Beautiful work, but there are no prices mentioned.
I can assure you that for people browsing your website, that question ranks high in their minds. You can avoid a lot of unnecessary emails by posting your prices on your website, as well as attract a lot more clients who otherwise will just move one, rather than send a query.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
After long time of absence here I wish to share with you my recent armour project. Mainly I make the reproduction of armour from second part of XIV c. and begin of XV c, but few days ago I finished the late XV c. italian export set for the polish jouster. Armour was made in italian manner but with some german attributes, so it is in 'alla tedesca' style. All pieces was handmade without welidng from medium carbon steel and spring steel from 1 mm (19 gauge) thick up to 2 mm (14 gauge) thick. Everything despite the full greaves was heat hardened and tempered up to hardness 38-42 HRC. I used high quality casted brass buckless, leather was dyed red. It was very big and difficult project, I have learned many new techniques and it was quite huge step forward for me as armourer.
At first the full leg harness. Upper legs inspired by italian export cuisses 'alla tedesca' from Philadelphia Museum of Art, c. 1465-70.
Arm harness with gauntlets. Mittens inspired by gauntlets from Churburg CH S23.
Cuirass with pauldrons. Cuirass inspired by 'alla tedesca' cuirass from Museum im Prediger Schwäbisch Gmünd, but was changed into typical four pieces italian construction.
More photos you can find on my website.

I'm afraid his prices may be in the "If you have to ask you can't afford it" range...
Beautiful armor, and most like worth every penny. But you'd have more customers if you posted pricing.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Let me tell you.........the work is first rate, the communication prompt, the delivery spot on time , and his prices are way more than fair for the superior product he delivers. I should know, I am one of his patrons! He has already delivered a late thirteenth German harness that blows the doors off most everything I see here for even more money!

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
The harness he did for me is on his web site. It is the splinted, and studded red leather one, and he also did two helms. The Great Helm, and the center mounted Bascinet with the aventail.

He emailed me his price list, and I have to say it's quite reasonable. Prices are exceptional for the apparent quality of work he is producing!

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Hello again!
After finishing the late XV c. italian export set I have come back to XIV c. I want to share with you my new version of cuirass based on exposition of men-at-arms from silver altar in Pistoia cathedral, circa 1371. First version I have made about three years ago. This time I change few details: the breastplate is deeper, fauld is wider and the characteristic V shaped bottom lames are more narrow. Cuirass is fully made from medium carbon steel, heat hardened and tempered. Breasplate is extra equipped with V-neck guard. Weight is 4 kilos. I add some pictures during raising the breastplate.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Oh wow, that last breastplate is right off of the silver altar piece! Wonderful.
My own cuirass is based off of the Museum im Prediger Schwäbisch Gmünd as well. I took a bit more german turn with mine than the Milanese route.

Piotr,
Your attention to detail and eye for proper historical line and shaping is really superb! Excellent work! I'm particularly in love with your Wallace A69 bascinet, Churburg CH16 bascinet, and the cuirass with covered fauld based on the Voit von Rieneck effigy that you have done on your website! Beautiful pieces!
