Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Little website update before end of the old year.
I add photos of armour set based on german knights effigies: Beringera von Berlichinge 1377 and Voita von Rieneck 1379 which I made in the end of last year. Thanks to kindness of my client I can share them with you:
Also I wish to share with you refresh version of arm harness which I made few years ago. Plate arm harness with gauntlets made from medium carbon steel, second half of XIV c. Gauntlets are made without welding. All heat hardened and tempered up to 38-42 HRC = 372 - 416 VHP.
More photos during forging the gauntlets you can find here http://www.platener.eu/wprodukcji_en.html
I wish you all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Guilty as charged.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Greetings!
After longer silence here I wish to share with you almost complete harness set for middle of XIV c. It was based on compilation of sources like effigiess, sculputres, iconography and also surviving armour pieces from about 1340-1360.
Arm and leg harness made of anatomicaly formed leather, wax boiled and dyed to oxblood color. Steel elements made of medium carbon steel, heat hardened and tempered up to 38-42 HRC.
Coat of plates also made from medium carbon steel, heat hardened and tempered. Covered with printed red linien. Arming chains based on surviving examples from 'Puzzle Armour' from Inglostadt:
http://www.wallacecollection.org/blog/2 ... le-armour/
Bascinet with nasal made of mild steel. Heat hardened and tempered up to 30 HRC. Nose guard inspired by surviving example from Netherlands.
Currently the great helm for this set is under construction and from later period the gothic leg harness for second half of XV c. - I should be able to share with the final result soon.
More photos as always you can find on my website.
I wish to kindly inform that I have some free spots in work schedule in first half of 2016 (March/April/May). If you are interested in some custom made, high quality historical armour reproduction please don't hesitate to contact with me.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Greetings
I wish to share with you here with most interesting armour pieces which I have made within the last half year.
At first armour set (without gauntlets) which is one of possible version of harness depict by men-at-arms from silver altar of St. James in Pistoia Cathedral. All pieces are finished to rough satin finish - more suitable for men-at-arms- with some marks after forging, raising and hammering and also with some minor scratches after grinding.
At first breastplate with V-pointed fauld in downward lapping construction this time.
Arm harness articulated on internal leather straps with small round spaulders.
Leg harness with poleyns which have addtional "hoods" and interior wings.
Helmet is based on two sources: skull on bascinet from Sion and visor on klappvisier from Marburg, University Museum, Inv.-Nr. 185. For the visor I made additional vent holes on left side and divided eye slot into small rectangles for better protection.
Poleyns based on effigy of Sir John Blanchefront, circa 1350.
Breastplate made from medium carbon steel 2 mm and 1,5 mm (side plates). Based on effigy of Eberhard von Rosenberg, circa 1387. Equipped with lance rest (based on Churburg CH13 piece) and handmade very solid steel buckles. Heat hardened and tempered up to 42 HRC.
That's all for now and more photos you can find on my website.

It’s time for some changes. I decided to make a new armourer mark, which consist of my initials. I have been using old mark since 2008 and it become little outdated, that’s why for long time I have been thinking to replace it. So here it is:

Hey Piotr.
I just got through reporting a number of great helm auctions on Ebay from Indian vendors who stole images from your website. In some they were able to reduce the contrast between your watermark and the photo enough that it was hard to see, and they have also started adding their own watermarks for effect. You might want to consider making a more bold and permanent-looking watermark for the website images. Cheers!

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Thank you very much Gerhard for your action, however it's difficult to fight with these Indian swindlers, becouse they are putting new auctions again. I have seen that they cover my watermark with they signs - I don't want to make to watermark to strong visible so it don't cover to much of the harness. However thank you for advice, I will think about it. Some time ago I point some auction in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=184728 You must be aware that this is fraud and when you order something from them it will be object much different than harness from stolen photos.
In the meantime I wish you all:

FABULOUS work on that 1520 Musée de l'Armée close helmet. I just had the privilege to see one of the intellectual brethren (that is, Napoleonic replicas) of that helm in person this December, and I must say that your reproduction is flawless. I'd even be so bold as to say yours exceeds the helm I saw. Keep it up--you're doing us all a justice with this kind of work!

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Matthew I'm very pleased that you like my version of close helmet from Paris. It was big challenge for me and it took a lot of time to make it, however I think that it is my vey best work - of course I'm aware that on some details and proportion I could do better.

Re: PLATENER - historical armour reproduction
Good day!
Little summer update. I wish to share with some special photos which are kind of summary of projects which I presented you last time.
My customer made unique photos showing visored bascinet (based on example from Musée de Cluny in Paris ) on his head and you can see how it fit exactly:
For summary of early XV c. jousting armour project I present you it in action, directly from tournament tiltyard:
Bascinet from last two photos was made by different armourer. Photos in higher resolution you can find on my website in Helmets section http://www.platener.eu/helmy_en.html and Full suites section: http://www.platener.eu/zestawy_en.html
