WTB Alum Hand Pavise

Post by Hanko Kal »

Looking to see if anybody knows people that are still making these. Windrose used to have them on their site but they have taken down this option a while back.

Thanks,

Hanko.

How soon do you need it, did you have any paticular shape, size, or style in mind?

No real timeframe at the moment. Centergrip setup. Sized for Jumbo(6'4" 270) so probably 34-36x24 or so. Shape would be similar to the 15th century Hungarian pictured http://www.photo.rmn.fr/LowRes2/TR1/0TS ... 507878.jpg

Would this be for rapier or heavy combat?
It's a bit oversized for aethelmearc rapier where the size is limited but most kingdomes don't limit size for melee.

For heavies. Not interested in rapier at this time.

...and if someone can do that one, I'd have an earlier version one I'd like to discuss.

I had been talking to someone from either West or CAID about one, but....

I'm working on trying radius bends at work, trying for the potato chip bucklers that the fencers use.

I have made a shield like this before, but using sharp bends. The T6-6061 aluminum seems to want to crack at anything over a 60 degree bend on me. So I used four 45 deg bends to make the pavise.

Started with a 30" long by 20.5" wide piece of metal (with edging holes) and did the four bends. This allowed me to 'cheat' the center by having less than a 1/4" flat spot in the center. Ended up with roughly 18" width and 3" protrusion.

See attached file for the drawing I did and made it from.

Edit: This was made by request of a friend doing a Landsknecht persona. If it's something you might be interested in, let me know.

The fact that the price must be paid is proof it is worth paying.

I want one! Feel like doing another? If so, how much would you charge, and how long to do it?

Thanks!

I don't have any materail big enuff.
Lordnugg was doing a few budget options with salvaged street sign.
There was talk about a sheet of higher grade stuff but I'm not sure how much new aluminum would run.

Would one made from street sign aluminum hold up enough for you? You would definitely have to bend back your corners occasionally.

-edit-
I have salvaged street sign big enough to do that and that Hungarian piece is really inspiring, I'd love to paint a shield like that. Where you planning on painting yours like that one, or with your own design? Would you mind if I made one to sell and painted it like that example?
