Review, Old Realm Trades (Draven) Gauntlets

Post by freiman the minstrel »

I recently bought a single left handed gauntlet from Draven (Old Realm Trades).

I was bounced at Pennsic because my half gaunt wasn't enough behind my shield. I complained to Kane Redfeather, and he said to get over it, and loaned me a hockey glove. With the glove, I passed inspection, and then (sorry, Kane) lost the hockey glove.

After sending off a set of Hockey gloves to Kane, I decided I needed a left handed marshal deflector. I certainly need one before crown in March.

Draven worked with me very carefully to make sure that I had exactly what I needed.

She was willing to sell me a single gaunt, which most armorers are unwilling to do.She sold it to me for seventy five bucks. She sent me a gaunt that like so many is basically a drastically upgraded version of Hadi al Hadad's gauntlet pattern.

But what an upgrade. The gaunt is made entirely from sole bend leather. It is water hardened, for strength, and then wax coated to be water proof. The minimal strapping (I told her I needed it strapped) is adequate for control, but still makes me feel like I am controlling my shield with just a gloved hand. The dark brown color disappears in the shadows behind the shield, and the bell can easily be concealed under my tunic sleeve

But the really cool part of the gaunt is the thumb. Draven knew that I am very concerned about my hands, on accounta me being a musician and all, dontyaknow. This thumb is as much a tank as leather can be. My wife looked at it and said "Finally, hand protection."

I wont be losing this one.

For those of you tuning in late, I have an awesome set of finger mittens, made in stainless, from one of the best armorers in the business, and I had to leave the field at war because I got my thumb injured. My wife has been worried about my hands ever since.

So, over all, 5 out of 5 all across the board.
