Andrea...the tangs are usually only about 4"-5" on these things, most came for Bud K who was one of my distributor for my store..they are decorative pieces that you wouldn't want to go out in the yard and hit a tree with..they look nice, are in fact steel, but...ya get what you pay for...it's definitely not a Citadel $1400 Katana that you could smack a tree with
