Days of Knights - Frankfort, KY October 2012

I just stumbled upon this web page for what looks to be a medieval timeline event to be held this October about 30 miles from my home.
This is the first I have heard of it.

Does anyone know more about it?
Anyone plan on participating?

Thanks,
Tom

They have a Facebook page. Robert Coleman is involved, along with some SCA and Faire folks.

I was just over on Facebook search to see if there was one when you posted.

Looks like they are trying to put together a BotN style combat.

Robert and I are fighting BOTN style at the event. Last I heard it was decided that BOTN might be a bit too dangerous to be allowed under their insurance but is going to be allowed as a private combat not associated with the event....hint, hint.

I plan to go, I just need some stuff to complete my kit before I do go, such as a new gambeson and maille chausses. Not registering until my kit is complete.

Have you joined the Facebook group?

If not please go ahead and do so or at least follow along.
There is quite a bit of relevant info showing up there.

I'll be there, along with a few members of my Order. We are planning to do a few demos. It should be a great time. The FB page has lots of good information and discussions.

Thanks for posting this, I'm about 20 miles east and this is the first I've heard of it.

Does anyone know any details about horses at this event? From a few of the Facebook comments it sounds like there will be some jousting but details on the website are sparse. I would like to know if it is going to be something like an open tournament, invite tournament or just a demo put on by a group.

I think it is a demo, but I would contact the organizer, Nicky Hughes, directly or just post the question on the Facebook page.

Looks like he is on his way to the UK for a week or so.
He may or may not be answering e-mails during that time.

This would be interesting, but I have already registered and paid for War of the Wings 2012 which is the same weekend.

There were over 120 registrants to participate. Even if you didn't get registered to participate, come on out and see us fire trebuchets, smash up pumpkins and melons with medieval weaponry, combat demos, jousting ... and of course talking and interacting with ~600 years of living history people!

Days of Knights is coming up this weekend!

Some how I have ended up being in charge of the non-mounted combat.
This is the first effort by the organizers to get some interest in medieval living history type events going in this area.
Please come out and see what we have going on.

Thanks,

I live vicariously thru Wolf on Facebook.
These guys are hot and cold IMO.

One day I watched many of them condemn all those 'farbs' that wanted to maybe shower over the three days event, then the next thread was about ensuring folks that there would be plenty of portapotties available for use.

I kinda found that funny:)

I agree that there are more than a few people signed up that are not too clear on the living history concept.
Hopefully there will be enough good presentations to make it worthwhile and maybe show the others how its done.
There are a few who are trying really hard and are eager to learn. :D

Then there have been some of the posts about newly acquired gear just for this event that make me want to cry.
Gloves with pyramid studs like a biker jacket.

Its all good Tom B
Keep at it, it takes a while but you can create a quality product.
Just make your motto "Quality over Quantity" and stick to it.
Never compromise for more numbers, Id rather see 10 great kits at an event that 20 substandard ones.

When VNA stuck to this simple concept they were a great group (they still have some outstanding members (your dealing with at least one of them in Jim), they are just in a position where they have to take the floatsam with the jetsam now and its not as appealing to some of us anymore)

Yeah, it's a random mix. Some people are staying in hotels, some are camping, some are "glamping". Some shower, some won't. I'd love a shower, but 4 nights in the hotel is expensive (coming from 500 miles away), so I opted to put that "hotel" money into buying a tent instead - I haven't camped in 15 years. And after 3 days in a 16th century full harness, doing demos and getting "fragrant", other people will probably want me to shower, too.

Looking forward to it!

I know that man, actually. He's very passionate about the 14th Century, and about doing it right. Pick him if you can! He's got one of the sweetest kits I've seen put together, and none of it is off the rack, all custom- even the soft kit parts.

Yeah, I concluded that you weren't going to make it from some Facebook posts I read after I asked the question above.
Hopefully we will get enough interest that we can make this an annual thing.

The event was great, hope it becomes an annual thing.
A few pics I have
Sorry the photos a re a bit Tom-centric, more to come showing some of the other neat stuff / kits there.

We had about 1350 school kids come through on Friday, 2550 general public on Saturday and only about 500 on Sunday due to the bad weather.
During the weapons demos I must have cut about 100 cantaloupe, 25+ cabbages, and 20 or so heads of lettuce.
