Crusader and Burgeonet sculpt, Spanish "Illuminated" Tile...

Post by PartsAndTechnical »

I am heading up an educational project building a mid 17th century house. I need to get a good trailer to haul the tree trunks/logs to the site, so Im putting a bunch of stuff up for sale to fund the trailer.

Fleur de Lis candlestick, solid wood, carved, iron candle holder, very impressive, about 8 inches....15
Spanish Illuminated tile, pretty large, about 8 x 11 ....20
Crusader knight, over 12" tall.....15
Burgeonet helmet sculpt (not sure who made this, but its amazing detail, about 4" and heavy!....20

Want everything...make an offer.

The tile is a quote from Alfonso of Aragon and translates:
Quemad viejos leños, leed viejos libros, bebed viejos vinos, tened viejos amigos.
Variant translations: Old wood to burn! Old wine to drink! Old friends to trust! Old authors to read!
Literal translation: Burn old wood, read old books, drink old wines, have old friends.

As quoted in Aire puro para el amor y la amistad Betancourt, Luis Fernando 7a. reim., p. 165
As quoted in Floresta Española de Apothegmas o Sentencias, by Melchior de Santa Cruz (1576), ii. 1. 20.
