Small piece of YELLOW brass

Post by Halbrust »

I'm looking for a small piece, need about a 2 inch circle of very yellow brass. My assumptions and quick googling says brass, but if you know better say so.

If anyone has a small piece to sell me please speak up.
Or if you know where I can find the quested metal in such a small quantity.

Most hobby shops will have it, my local Ace hardware, and any shop that does trophys.

How close to perfect does it need to be? I may have some in the shop.

Hardware store, even the big-box ones, over near the doorknobs they will have push-plates. These go on one side when you only want to push an unlocked door or as door-knob backers if you have to drillout a custom. HD caries then in satin brass for $12 and polished brass for $17. They are 4" x 16". Much cheaper then $63 for a kick-plate and rather thick. You can get a number of small pieces out of one.

Thanks everyone. I never thought about hardware/box stores.
I'll statt the physical search this weekend.

Just in case the brass I find isn't "yellow enough", does anyone have a metalurgical(?) suggestion

Another place is to ask at a trophy and plaque maker. They have tons of scrap and I get it from my local maker for free since they are too small to not have to pay to get it recycled. perhaps try them?

Hal, what thickness?
And can you do any cutting yourself, or do you need it already cut in a circle?

Another good question would be, whats it for?

I have a sword basket that has these open circles in it. It's old, and was probably legal back when. To be legal now I have to weld a bar across the circles. I thought that since my device is mainly a bezant it would look nice to cover one of the holes with a circle of yellow brass.

I figure I'll back it with some 16gauge steel, so thickness doesn't really matter. Just thick enough to not deform during the instalation.

I'll have to check my scrap pile, but I think I have a couple of 3" circles I made with brass kickplate. I'll have to take a pic or two. Won't be able to get into the shop until Friday though.
Here is a pair of arms I made with the same kickplate and the circles are the same size as the black leather rounds on the elbows:

Well, the stuff I have is 16 gauge.
Let me know if things fall through otherwise.
