Service Offer - Lamellar Lacing!

Hello fellow armour enthusiasts. I have just finished relacing my lamellar for the fourth time, and it dawned on me. Lacing Lamellar sucks! It takes hours of burns, blisters, and cramped hands to finish an entire suit and it is not an overly enjoyable experience; however, I have gained a certain aptitude for lacing cord and I do enjoy holding the finished product. Following that line of logic I thought that I would offer my hours of experience and my battered hands to the members of the Archive, so here is my offer:
I am offering to lace your lamellar for a flat rate fee. The overall quote will depend on the dimensions of the suit, the type of plate, the materials used, and the location it is being shipped to. Here is how the process works:
- Send me a PM on the archive with your physical dimensions, materials, and vision for the suit
- I'll reply with your quote for labor and return shipping
- Drop ship the materials from the chosen vendor to my shop
- I will lace the plates into a suit and, for a fee, add a harness and or straps as desired
- Once final payment has been received I will ship the completed project or if you are within a 100 mi radius I will hand deliver for a final fitting
As I am relatively new to the archive I can provide references as needed. I use PayPal exclusively for payment. I will also be posting pictures of my own suit shortly.

Sounds like an excellent idea. We have just added the D shaped lamellar plates to our dies and will have the pics on the site this week. Can be dyed to any specified colors. If we have anyone asking about lacing, I will give you a shout.

Do you have any pictures from past work?

Odd...
I offered the same service last year after posting a complete step by step how-to including leather edging. I even showed a simple edge braid to prevent your fighting tunic from getting wear spots.
And there were only *crickets*
Good luck in your endevour, it is a needed service.

Can you do it right to my stringent specifications?

Patternweld- can you post a link to that tutorial? Thanks!

I will PM it to you. Otherwise I think it would be hijacking Arslan's thread.

Given enough time I can accomplish anything; however, adding man hours raises the cost.

I will vouch
wholeheartedly for him.
I mean, he is one of mine (not in fealty, but in our Canton)

I completely agree. In fact I'm glad that there is someone else interested in lacing as I can only take on a couple of projects at a time. It's the one thing that I have noticed lately on the archive. We need more armourers not less. If I get more requests then I can handle I may tap you for relief as long as you are willing.

Here is my current suit. It doesn't bite or bind and I can slide it on over my head. I thought about leaving the right side open and adding buckles, but it really does go on like a t-shirt.

I would like to lace armor for people.
I wasn't sure if I should start my own thread or hijack this one.
You could send me plates, or I could buy them (but I would want some of the payment up front for that).
Actually, having me buy them is preferred, then I can get some for myself with a bulk discount
Please include dimensions, measurements etc.
There a new place
http://ellsfjordtrading.wikispaces.com/Lamellar that sells aluminum d plates for 42 cents each. Or 38 cents for orders over 1000. In case you are to lazy to click the link, their plates are 2.75 inches tall and 0.88 inches wide (thats 8/9 in fraction talk)
I laced some lamellar that I made for myself once.
Oddball question: If leather has been overhardened can it be softened?

#2. No, I don't believe it can. Once it's crispy, your out of luck.

Doh! Ah well. Thank you, that was a quick answer.
I am going to check out oiling it a bit but I don't think it's going to work out.
If I cut them into lamellae would they hold up or still crack? Maybe lacquer them.
Also, my suit of lamellar is still for sale.

Not nearly enough experience for me to say for certain, though for small lam plates, I'd bet they'd be a little better (depends on the crispiness and the thickness of the leather)
