scrap thick elkhide?

Hi all,

i've been playing with making tarahumara-styled sandals all though the summer out of scrap leather. So far i've had great luck with using medium-weight latigo, but i want to experiment with double-thickness deer or elk-hide, too.

Anyone have some scrap laying around they'd be willing to part with? I need a few pieces big enough to cut 2 size-12 feet's worth out of. Shoot me a PM?

thanks!

You might want to stick with latigo or maybe moose. Elk hide just ain't all that thick, for the most part. I've never seen any that would be anywhere near as thick as two layers of good latigo sewn together.

i was thinking, also, of latigo/elk. I like the character of it as a footbed, even though latigo is just fine -- and wears surprisingly well as a sole.
