As if having ready-to-rivet rings, rivets, and tongs wasn't enough to get you started making riveted maille, now we've gone and made it even easier! Forth Armoury is pleased to offer these "coif starters". We've constructed the hardest part of the coif for you - the top! These caps of maille are constructed using the "expanding rows" method of construction and contain between 900 and 1000 riveted rings.

If you've ever made a coif from scratch before you know how tedious and difficult it can be to get a coif started - what with the densely packed rings at the very top, and getting your idle rings in just the right places so that the coif "grows" at the right rate.

With our coif starter all of that has been done for you - all you need to do is continue adding maille to cover the rest of the head, and expand out over the shoulders to whatever length you desire. To finish a coif using our coif starter you will need about another 4000-5000 rings.

We offer the coif starter by itself, or as part of a combo package which includes the coif starter and one of our standard starter kits containing 5000* rings, 5000* rivets, and a set of rivet setting tongs.

Please see our ordering page here:

* Rings and rivets are sold by weight; actual count may vary slightly (±1-2%)

Steve:

1. Are the rings in the "Coif Starter Kit" all riveted, or are they alternating riveted and solid rings?

Looks good. As T-Bob asked, the new product I was hoping for was maille made of alternating rows rather than all riveted. Any future production plans?

Hi guys!

All of the rings are of riveted construction. No word on alternating-row maille yet.
