Boffer/Larp weapons *PICS*

Post by Sebastian K »

Hello there,

I was asked by Freiman to post some pics of my boffer weapons, so here we go. There will be new pics by the end of the week, so stay tuned. All these weapons are made with Glassfibrereinforced epoxy profiles, closed cell PE foam and Latex covering plus a very special flexible protective PE coating. If you are interseted just drop me a line.

I have posted these pics before on a different post. So, any LArpers around? If you do not use this kind, what kind do you use and why? Prices on these are 50$ and up, depending on what you want.

The Hand axes and flanged maces (seven bladed axe) are 69$ each plus shipping. I do just about anything that you can dream up.

It's not PVC. It is a high density epoxy laced with strands of glassfiber. It is vitually indestructible (and lord knows I tried). The foam is not cast but cut into form after being glued to the profile. It is a Polyethylene foam, closed cell, stream-laced, with a specific weight of 50kg per cubic meter.

Vallconnan: Figure out a way to make SCA legal weapons that look as good as those and you'll sell them by the truckload.

Vallconnan

Your stuff looks great. What kind of latax do you use on your boffers? How do you apply the latex?

Thanks

I use a pre-vulcanized Latex for about 7$ a quart, if you want the DIN number I will have to look that up. I spray the Latex on with a compressor. You can also brush it on with a regular paintbrush, but that will not look as smooth.

Hope this helps

Matt,

the problem is the following:

The SCA is very... anal.... about its rules. I fear that as a new fighter I would just run against the windmills and spend a lot of time and money on a new design without anything to show for it. So that is my main concern. I am pretty sure that I could come up with something, but the way the rules are now...

Thanks for the compliment though

how's this:

apply the latex onto a rattan core. Would definately give the marshalls a double take.

Just looked, murdock suggested it atlready.

As for the glasfibre poles, if they are anything like what some of the larps here use, they are DAMN near indestructable. kinda light, but pretty damn tough

Vallconan - I'll de dragged through a horse trough if those aren't the nicest non-steel weapons I've seen.
Moving along, how much do you ask for your swords? (the first sword pic and the repeated (at least I think it was repeated) zweihander?)

Well the local larps have the following criteria:

Closed cell foam at least 5/8" on all sides of the core (including the tip, which, if hollow should be plugged)

Open cell foam 2-3" in length over each ened (for thrusting/ pommel striking) further the thrusty tip must be sufficiently wide.

If you can do this, I think i might have a market for you, cuz those look SWEET.

I like, I like, much like ones I saw when I was in england. I do the same to construct mine, however I rarely make them with latex, as I am allergic Image I sock mine with pantyhose, and use a bamboo core with layered blue and black foam (I used to use tape, silly me) and spray adhesive to hold it all in. Scotch guard the hell out of them, and they hold well in the rain. Those are, however, the sweetest axes and maces I have ever seen for boffer (other latex ones I had seen looked brushed on, and rough)
Sad thing is, with these materials and techniques reality goes right out the window.... I mean, I know we all *want* a half pound long sword, but it makes it hard to call damage fast enough Image
