Review: Viking Leathercrafts, 14th century boots, buckles...

Post by Amanda M »

So I wanted to get some pics before I put my review together. I did that today. Here goes!

Frank and I traded for another banner. On my end, I got the 3 buckle 14th century boots, some strap leather and brass buckles.

I'm really happy with everything. The strap leather is high quality and the edges are nicely beveled. When I put the new upgrades into my kit the straps will be a lot easier for me to bit together and the historical buckles will really make my kit stand out from the other guy which is what I am all about. If you want belt making stuff, Viking Leathercrafts is a great way to go. I had gotten some belt blanks before but even the skinny 1/2" straps I just got are great.

I am mad crazy about my new boots though. They are fancy. They fit like a glove. I had him put the vibram soles on them and they are really low profile and hardly noticeable. The only thing I did to the boots was punch extra holes in the straps and shorten them a little because I have teeny feet for a tall person.

The belt I made that you can see in the pics is a belt blank from VL too. I cast all the doodads myself though.

Pics!

Heh, that brocade must be nice and cool Arizona heat... ;)

Frank sells good stuff. I bought the same exact boots about six months ago. They were too small for me (my fault not Frank's) so I sold them to a friend (Sevastian here on AA) but they were very well put together, and Sevastian LOVES them.

Everything is hot as hell when the temp climbs past 105. This spring I will make some cooler stuff but we are into nicer weather for the next month or so. It won't be bad right now.

I wore the boots to fight in today and the vibram soles worked out great. No slipping on damp grass but still feel low profile.

Excellent pictures - they are exactly what Frank's boots look like. I do not like high profile boots (I had tried on more than 100 pair before I tried Viking Leathercrafts.).
I have two pairs of boots (one with Vibram and the other with lugged soles). Both pair have excellent traction and feel. Neither pair feel like they are high profile.
I would know, I can fall up stairs and trip over flat ground (maybe that's the narcolepsy), but I can fight in my VL boots without a problem.

But it's a dry heat! :D

Really! Much better than summertime in southwest Texas. I sometimes wish we were back in Chandler.

With that outfit, have you given thought to turning the tops of the boots down?

It really gives them the period outline.

I thought about it but the inside is natural leather so I wasn't sure if it would look weird or not.
