Starter Helms?

Is anyone besides Hjalmr making them? Not to take away from Hjalmr, but I have some new guys and was looking for options to show them. Looks like too many armorers who used to make them are now out of business... Looking for starter helms under $250. Thanks.

I had him quote me a price list for a variety of helms, all very reasonably priced

Iron monger should also be in the list.

Though there are quite a few deals on the archive with people trying to raise $$$ for the holidays.

Thanks for the plugs guys. Rather made my day.
My spangenhelms are at $175 these days, however I still make a basic starter bucket for $75. Its just a spangen top, solid back, 3 bar bargrill (the rst of the face is solid) no nasal, simple basic helm.
ALso, for anyone close enough to local to make the drive;
For new fighters who are willing to come and help build there helm, I just charge for the mats. Thats usually around $35 -$40
Im a little behind right now because I went out of town for the holiday, and have been ill for several days. That said, I expect to finish my last paying order today, and start knocking out a couple helms I am using for barter. So I could have another helm made by end of next week if somone wanted to order one.

We got one of our local newbies one of accdtprone's helms, and it came out looking pretty good. The bar grill was spot-on (unlike other low-end helms where we had to fix the grill, or bend the bars into legality), he turned it around pretty quick, and kept in communication. Had it ready to ship as soon as he got the check, and gave us a tracking number. All in all, a pretty great deal.

Of course, we haven't gotten to HIT said newbie yet, since he went an had a 'scope put in his ankle to check for pre-existing ankle damage, but I don't think that was accdtprone's fault. ;)

I offer a 12ga starter helm for 100 dollars. There are many in service over 20 years. They are built to last and will pass all kingdom inspections without a problem. I set my bars at 7/8 centers using a 1/4inch cold rolled round stock.
Thanks

i have helms from both emorokian arms and accdntprone. they are both solid hats, the one from beau(emorokian) has taken many a hit from some of the harder hitters in the area and not a dent or a ding, the one from accdntprone i have not had the pleasure of suiting up with yet(stupid army screwin with my knee's)

but you can't go wrong with either of them

Yeah, I would second Emorikian and Accdntprone. The others, I just havent dealt with personally, so can't speak for.

Emorokian has pictures of his on his website (http://emorokian-arms.com/Products.html). The helms look BETTER than they do in the photos. I have seen them in person. He also makes fine custom helms, of which I purchased a couple. My daughter and I are very pleased with them. The prices are MORE than reasonable.

To describe exactly how durable the helms are: We use our helms to block hits from Starfire Swords. (We don't TRY to get clobbered.) After 6 months of weekly use and practice, there are no dents in either helm. This is against single handed, hand-and-a half (28" ridged) sword, 1 meter broadsword, scimitar, and ACS-31 (acorn quillion Swordbreaker) used one of our instructors uses. I forgot to list the daggers - oh well. You get the idea how solid these helms are.

Hope this helps!

John
