Dark Red Leather for Sale

Post by Otto »

I'm selling this dark red leather that I've had for a good bit but don't seem likely to use any time soon.

The leather is 67 inches long and 5 inches wide at it's narrowest point with most areas being substantially wider. I don't know the exact thickness of the leather... it's not as thick as sole leather, but far thicker than pouch leather... I'd say something like stout belt leather.
The color doesn't show well in the pic... but it's a very dark red.

I honestly don't know what I should ask for it. Anyone know a decent "bargain" price?

Anyone interested in buying it?

Otto, any way you can take a close-up to show the surface of the piece?

Without knowing the type and oz. of the leather, it's hard to say. The belly edges like that tend to have a big variance in the thickness anyhow. Along the straight edge, it could be close to 10 oz. and then on the jagged edge as little as 4 oz.
If it's red latigo, it could be desirable for strapping. If it's drum-dyed veg tanned, it would have much more limited use IMO. Undyed veg-tanned leather (which I think would be more desirable for tooling) runs about $30-$35 per piece around that size.

Hi Otto, I dont mean to bum you out but the belly areas of leather hides are usually garbage. Many creases and super stretchy parts on em. This may not be the case with this leather but normally it is. Check the hide and see if its overly stretchy.

Take care

If it's like a dark red/burgundy color, I'll lay dibs on it. Looking at doing some nice heraldic color strapping on my armour, and this should work out well for that. Would you take $10?
