Northstar armoury

Post by Nathaniel Hawkins »

I am looking on ebay thinking about buying a set of arms and legs from Master Peter of North Star Armoury. I have never delt with him before. Could anyone please tell me if this person is trustworthy?
Thank you.

I have had one friend buy something from Northstar Armory off of ebay (a pair of his gauntlets).

As far as I know the deal went very smoothly, item shipped right away and everything as it was advertised.

I have never purhcased from Master Peter, but he let me demo our (then) new riveted maille at his shop at Pennsic a couple of years ago. Very nice, very talented, and very up-front.

My brother bought a pair of gaunts off him from Pennsic, and I bought a 2nd pair from him through eBay.

Great gauntlets. A little slow on the transaction, but it got here. I'd recommend him.

I am curious what you liked about the gauntlets.. the hand/wrist part worked very well but we could not figure out a way to strap those thumbs good enough to fight in.

They just didnt seem very safe to me...

A few months ago I have purchased a pair of pauldrons from him through ebay and they work well. I found him easy to work with and his prices good. I had heard good things about his armour from other people, some of whom are armourers.

Since then, I have started selling his some of his armour from my merchant booth at SCA events. I'm not buying and then reselling his armour, but selling directly from him. Many people have made good comments about the pieces I have available.

I'm his junior apprentice type, and I think he's a good guy. (Not that I would be biased or anything.) Re the thumbs - He's generally willing to do more traditional thumbs if you prefer. The idea with them was that they'd kind of act like large shields, and protect from a lot of different angles.

Im just curious to see how they are supposed to be strapped/worn. The way that we were thinking they should work didnt seem to.

My friend has developed some other health problems that have been keeping him out of fighting so he hasnt really been too concerned about them. I could ask him if he still wanted to do something about those thumbs (I think his son is making noises about wantin to fight).
