I have had some problems in the past with customs in the UK with sending packages. This question is for some of you fellows that have had experience with shipping abroad. On the customs sheet that must be filled out, what do I need to mark, "GIFT"? I don't want to cause too much grief to the recipient, but had a problem about a year ago with the post office there wanting them to pay more for the package when it was delivered. Any response will be appreciated.

If you mark it as "Gift" make sure there is no receipt inside the box. Customs sometimes opens boxes to make sure the label is correct, and if there's a receipt in there, they nail the recipient with the import costs.

Be sure to use USPS and not a private courier like UPS or Purolator. The customs charges will be MUCH lower if any at all.

I always use the terms Leather costume. Then, there is no question as to contents. Gift creates an exemption. Just make sure there is no invoice. Handle that by email.

well when mailing "abroad" make sure the package has air holes and maybe give her a book, some snacks, a tin can to pee in and a little flash light.

Thanks for the help guys, I will take it all and use it. I will make sure that there are air holes in everything I ship from now on too, hehe.

As for your question Halfdan, I am working diligently on getting a website up and running. I am taking pics and dreaming up new ideas daily and will be sure to announce it here for the Archive's critique.

AHHHH I hate customs and port taxes! It snot too bad if its something small but anything big and heavy is an absolute nightmare! I live in the U.K. (Northern Ireland to be precise) and I was considering buying ice hockey gear across from the U.S. to save on the price (its really dear and theres no selection over here) but then I found out the costs shipping itself is quite expensive, then you need to pay a port tax to get it out of the U.S. a port tax to get it into the U.K. (England) and because none of the big companies have ships directly to Ireland I gotta pay another port tax to get it out of england and one more to get it into Ireland!!!

How insane is that!!!?!? when I calculated it all up I realised it would be cheaper to buy stuff over here (and have no selection )
