A very small, antler hilted dagger with solid brass fittings.
(I never use hollow fittings...Everything is always solid and heavily built.)
4 1/2 inch carbon steel blade, 8 inches overall.
My usual rough mirror finish, and edged.
(Its not very sharp- It will cut some things, but its a tiny blade, after all.)
Solidly constructed..But NOT to be thrown!
(Only knives made as throwing knives should ever be thrown...)
I was playing with some small dagger blades a few days ago, and realized I had a single small piece of antler- just the right size and scale to make into a grip for one of them.
So this is the result.
Pretty rare- I'm fairly sure won't be able to offer anything like it again unless I get unreasonably lucky in scoring more small and detailed antler.
A nice concealment dagger...Or delicate skewer for eating dainty morsels at feast.
Or giving someone the POINT of your argument!
The quillons make it a bit wide for a bodice carry...Though it would work with some care.
(Point to point width on the quillons is a hair under 2 inches.)
Overall a really nice little piece that would grace the court ensemble of any Lady or stylish Gentleman.
There is a small bend in the profile- I had to follow the natural shape of the antler, so it appears slightly canted or bent to one side.
This is minor, the unavoidable consequence of the shape of the antler used for the grip, and does not affect use.
The bend would in fact make concealed carry up a sleeve easier, as it would allow the blade to follow the natural curve of a forearm when strapped in place in a sheath. (Like the Gerber "bent handle" boot knives of the Vietnam era.)
We'll start this at $60 opening bid, and run the auction to next wednesday.
(EDIT- Realized just now that Estrella is next week..So shortening a bit for convenience.)
Payment by paypal must be made within a week of end of auction.
(If you're going to Estrella, I'll wait for you to get home...But give me some warning please?)
The winner will pay an additional $9 to US addresses, though I must give overseas buyers a separate shipping quote.
(Be warned that the antler grip may make importation to a non-US country difficult or impossible...I cannot speak for your customs office, and you will be responsible for knowing your own nation's laws on the matter.)
A fitted sheath may be purchased for an additional $25.
Thanks.
