I know of a fellow selling a sugar loaf for a decent price. What is your head size and price range?

I have a good size melon...lol. I think we measured it out to 24 -24.5 already padded. As far as pricing, just not looking to spend a ton starter. Really looking for anything reasonable.

To clarify, you're saying that with padding your head is 24-24.5 inches? Do you know what it is without padding?

To caius, the helms I've tried on belong to others and are already padded.

To carlisle, do you have any pics?

if you have a measuring tape measure the fattest part of your head, thats a good start

thats not a good sized melon, 24 is pretty standard, 23ish is small so your right about normal
good luck with your hunt

Seconded so hard. I got him my measurements right before he started a batch of his Starter Bascinets and I had a helm in my hands in under two weeks.

I was utterly boggled.

Also, he has you take front-to-back, over-the-top, and side-to-side measurements of your head, as well as circumference, for a more accurate fit. Fantastic. Doesn't hurt that it's super inexpensive.

Where do you buy hats? I have a 23.25" head and that puts me deep in the L/XL section of any haberdasher I've been in. I know some SCA fighters have XXXL heads, but that doesn't make 23.5" small.

most sca people i have talked to (armorers included) mention that 24 inches is a fairly common head
my hat size is 7.5ish and i wear a large mich helmet.
usually i don't buy hats as i don't wear them unless i gotta

Huh. I wear hats fairly regularly (I like 'em) and I have to go to actual hat sellers, not just get whatever at Target or Wal-Mart; the One Size doesn't Fit Me.

A lot of the SCA guys up here in the EK have smaller heads than me, but a bunch have bigger, too. *shrug*
