I'm conducting a market survey for linseed oil blackened spring steel Sugarloaf helms made for ACL/Botn made from 0.083" 1050 spring steel hardened to a Rc40-42 hardness. I have a design based the the sugarloaf helmet shown below, but without the brass cross, with more breath holes, and with three tabs evenly spaced over the eye slots. The construction would be done entirely in the USA and using modern computer controlled heat treating equipment.
Linseed Oil Blackened Armour:
This web page has the AutoCAD DXF patterns that would be used for the helm. You can see the breath hole pattern and three eye slot tabs.

Who would be willing to pay $600 for one of these helmets?
Best Regards,

I think $600 sounds like a steal personally.

Yeah, same here. That's an unbelievable price, especially for something being made here in the US!

Yeah, honestly, though ACL is kind of up in the air with me right now. I think I would save some cash to get this, for down the road.

I would. Is this going to be a group order or commission style?

My main goal is the get more ACL/BotN armour to the off-the-shelf market so that the sport can grow. It's more the case that I'm trying to encourage armourers to get into this market. However, a group order may be an interesting idea that I'd at least entertain.
I shipped a plate set that I built to a full time armourer in the U.S. to be shaped and assembled. When I get the helm back I'll heat treat, blacken, and post photos of it. The business details for addition helms remain to be worked out. If enough people are interested in a group order, then I'll do what I can to facilitate it, but I'm not going to be hammering out helmets.
The point that I'm trying to make is that producing basic ACL/BotN helmets from laser cut 1050 or 4130 plate sets then sending the helmets out to be heat treated can greatly reduce the shop hours per helmet. I've already told Jamie at Polar Bear Forge that he is more than welcome to sell plate sets cut from any of my CAD patterns that I make freely available to everyone.

I decided to keep it for my own use.
