wtb extant pewter badge

Post by zippy »

I want an extant badge to show while teaching pewter casting. I personally would prefer a boar, so that would probably be St. Anthony or Richard III. I realized I didn't know where to start this search, or who were the better vendors of this sort of thing.
So far my only stop has been Gaukler (http://medievalwares.com/), but I did not see any boars on his site.
Thanks

Boars show up from time to time, but since they are a livery badge, and thus rare, they are quite expensive.
I have quite a few pilgrim badges that should go up on the website.

As Gaukler said Boars are expensive. I have quite a few badges for sale and even more in my personal collection with which I would be willing to part.

Here is a link to my collection. there are no prices but I would be glad to discuss price if there is something that strikes your fancy. There is a boar in the group.

I am surprised boars are so rare, especially for such a relatively common charge. You have an awesome collection Talbot, thanks. The boars aren't as clear as I would like but some of the other ones were in amazing condition. I was hoping to find a reasonably clear badge in the 40-50 dollar range. Now I just need to decide what I need.

Also, try ebay. If you have a time limit, that's an issue, but I got most of my pewter badge from Eastern Eurpoean dealers on Ebay. Youu have to check often, and in multiple languages (English and German usually cover it), but you'd be amazed what shows up eventually.

Note for the unitiated: Many Ebay dealers make spurious claims, mostly due to cluelessness, not malice. If it looks wrong for what they are describing it as, it probably is, "certificate of authenticity" or not.
