Quadrangular Stiletto

Post by Godric of Castlemont »

A quadrangular stiletto, forged from 1095 with a walnut handle and steel fittings. This blade was differentially tempered to be a mail piercer. The tip was tempered to a light yellow (pretty hard) and the rest of the blade a dark blue (springy). So when used to punch threw mail the tip should split/cut the link and the rest of the blade take up the shock of impact. Bad day for bad guys in mail. 16 inches in overall length. This is a somewhat petite weapon, good for some one with smaller hands, I wear and large to XL glove and the handle is just a little thin for me.

I am asking $60 with free shipping to the CONUS.

Do you think this could pass for a Misericorde? I like it, need a knife, very 14th century in my kit, not super familiar with types of daggers though.

While I am not a specialist in the 14th cent......

From what I understand a misericorde was a blade used to give a quick (if not pretty) death to a downed opponent, possibly threw the eye slot of a helm. Jeeze, that would be a nasty way to die.

The round fittings and handle would firmly place this knife in the 14th cent, and the square cross section would most assuredly slip into the eye slots of most helms of the period with "not so fun" results for the person on the receiving end of the strike.

Or to put it another way; I think it would work, or at least be close enough that no one would be surprised to see this blade as part of you kit.

Dibs on it if you want Tim, I really don't need to spend the money. I'm just tired of fencers in chainmail thinking they're safe.

I can do some free verse

There once was a man named Tim
He thought he was funny.
Then he accidentally brutally stabbed himself in the neck while shaving.....

Nah, no worries.

My new pigsticker arrived in the mail today. Very handsome. Very good quality, I couldn't be happier with it. I'll do a review sometime next week.

I actually have a "pig sticker" I will see about posting an image one day. Here is an image of my "pig chopper", forged by me and used to split the carcases into halves. Image comes from our blog about our homestead, chronicling one of our recent pig slaughters.
