The Story: After a 10 year layoff from The SCA, I decided to give it another go and seriously take up Heavy Weapons/Armor Combat. I wanted to go about constructing a kit but wasn't going to start the main armor until I got a helmet first. I asked a few friends if they knew of any armorers that were selling reasonably priced starter helms. One friend pointed to Accident Prone Armory and a post that was made on this board about the kind of thing I was looking for. I got in touch with James Kellum of Accident Prone, he had been running a special until Pennsic War for starter helms. I was informed that the price would go up after Pennsic. I did my math and determined that I would have to wait until after. Even then, the price of $100 for a helm with $25 shipping fee was very reasonable and within my budget. I'm 9-5 clock-puncher making less than $10/hr so I have to budget my money carefully.

I saved up the necessary funds and made arrangements for the purchase of the helm through a Paypal purchase. This is the part of the story where you can see my lack o foresight,. You see I sent the money the week of Pennsic. That guaranteed a delay. I took this into account a few weeks after I made the purchase. I also figured that I'd wait at least 4-6 weeks for the helm to be forged and shipped. After 4 weeks I got in touch with Mr. Kellum again via email but got no reply. I sent 2 more emails to email address I had for him but didn't hear back. I got a little antsy to say the least. Ten it dawned on me to use The Armor Archive to send him a PM. He got back to me right away. James was very apologetic. After Pennsic his booking was jumbled and he problems putting which payments went with which orders. He figured out what went with which and kept me updated through further email correspondence on the status of my purchase.

On October 24th I was informed the package had been shipped and was provided a FedEx tracking number. On October 26th the package arrived on my doorstep. I was very happy with the result. The 3 month wait was worth it. Sure, it took 3 months but I was partially to blame given when I placed my order. I'm on to building my armor kit next and hope to be set to start practice by no later than March.

So many thanks to Accidnet Prone and Mr. Kellum! I look forward to gettign a good long use out of this helm and he will be first on my lis of people to contact if I want to upgrade and spend a little more money!

You were fine, I caught you at one of the worst times of the year for ordering that isn't Christmas time. The product is beautiful and will protect my noggin ,which really is the point.
