just the manica I looked at it very close the way they built it looks like its maneuverable look at the elbow closely and the shoulder.

pretty cool look but just that alone probably isn't going to be SCA legal. You'll need to add some stuff to it.

I know ive been wanting this kit since this series came out one hidden elbow cop on the manica and one that can be seen to hidden knee cops under the leg wrapings a dog collar gorget and on the back part of the belt raised just high enough to protect the kidneys and pass and a good sca legal gladiator helm. I can make the belt and shin guards just cant figure out the manica or the leg wraps or loin clothe.

Maximus Atreus Of Rome here on the Archive makes a very nice manica, and they are SCA legal.

Can I ask why you've chosen to go with something so blatantly Hollywood instead of it's historical variant?

I like how it looks and its close to the historical with a difference the top shoulder and the gaps for mobility.

Good luck with it then. I for one would not want to wear that; just my prerogative but not nearly enough protection. Looks cool though.

Oh hell, dude. Open skin? NO WAY. Prepare to get shredded up in the melees. There are too many burs on other people's armour and shields. Bruising will be ridiculous, even from the lightest, glanciest shots (they might actually bruise worse!) Better to be safe than sexy. Always choose functionality over form, my friend!

Having taken very heavy shots on un armored bits of my anatomy, I would never wear this kit on a field of war or in a tournament. That being said please take after pics!

Pretty much. I've taken hits (particularly from dickhead overzealous spearmen....who needs to blindside gak a kneed fighter? Really? Btw this was 100 Minutes war about two years ago so if it was anyone reading this.....!#@% you!) that made me nearly pass out and/or vomit and that was in armored spots.
I've seen guys fighting in little to no armor but hell no...it's a game to me. I'm already risking enough stepping out there for a *game*, why would I purposefully and knowingly increase my risk by going without any protection over vital organs? Nope, I'm good.

Yea it might look cool, but if your wanting to use this in the sca your going to get your flesh beaten to pulp.
Stuff like this just makes laughing stoke in the sca, because those who play know whats it like to get hit. I would say you would have to be a pretty bad @$$ to wear this into combat. But hey, I'm all for people looking good on the field, thats one of my personal goals, but at the same time I want it to protect me.

Youll notice the non mutant guys who fight with bare skin usually have the mad skillz to survive it.

A lot of em yeah. But anyone can get blasted by anyone, if your number is called y'know? A first timer can gak the hell out of a duke if it's their lucky day. I prefer to stack the odds in my favor a bit but as I said that's just me and YMMV. To each their own!

You could make it work. You just need hard covering on your elbows and knees. Maybe something better for kidney shots. Adapt a cup, helmet, and gorget. Oh, and you are gonna have to do a lot of sit-ups.

I make manica and have made lots of them, more toward the legionary style though usually. If you search for them, I have a few sale threads with lots of pics of mine. The manica I make don't need to have more armor worn underneath them, no elbow cop required. I make mine to be SCA legal and they come pre-padded with sheep skin.
I could make something like that for you, but my main question would be; do you want it made to look like that (worn, torn, tarnished, dirty, used) or do you want it to look like new (like one may imagine Ganicus' armor looked like 10 years before the show took place)?
As to the whole kit, I could make you a gladiatorial belt that covers your kidneys (probably best to make it a lot bigger than the one from the show). I guess you're looking to do shovel greaves for you legs too? Do you plan on using a shield? If so, punch shield/center grip or strap? As in, would you need armor for your shield arm as well? And for garb, he really doesn't have much! But we could talk about that too, I'm sure I could help you out.

Ive seen the ones you make amazing work i wouldnt mine one for both arms with some brass work if that could be done. As in Gannicus armour new it will get plenty of wear and tear

yea agree with kidney belt.I want greaves with hidden knees and upper legs under the leg wrappings. As the shield goes I was thinking about a smaller center grip scutom shield.

Most kidney belts I've seen don't cover the kidneys at all. Its going to have to be a pretty tall belt.

A muscled breast and back plate would look good - if you went leather, you could make it flesh-toned (or paint the steel).
Owen painted his tennis-shoes to look like sandaled bare feet.

well couldn't find a photo of a local knight that has a similar kit.. but i did find video of him in action.
http://youtu.be/ysUquf7dPCg .. what you'll notice he does have all the main points armored and does wear a gorget.
