Anyone have a suggestion that doesn't break the bank?

Not sure what break the bank means for you, but this would seem to fit the bill:

Alternately, you could start with a basic spangenhelm (conical if you can find it) and add a neck drape.

That would totally work with a drape! Or even a plate folds down the back or lamellar, either steel or leather. Your work is excellent, sir!

Alright, thanks all. I've forwarded all the info to the guy, see what he says. This was a lot less painful than looking for a Japanese helm.
