Gorget auction for a fallen friend. Bryan Gibson/ Svipdag

Post by Varukh »

Gleann Abhann suffered the tragic loss of Bryan Gibson/ Svipdag Skyldissonn this past weekend. The following is an excerpt from the announcement of his passing from Liam Devlin:
"10 February 2014, Bryan Gibson, Final update: The man I have known since 1982, and called my "big fuzzy older brother" (the good looking taller one) was swept off by Angels this morning at 0629am CDT after 18 minutes of trying to restart his heart which suddenly stopped at 0611am. I went to his bedside, and prayed. I am back posting this now, for the hundreds of friends of his, and his SCA family members across five kingdoms. As he lived in seclusion and was a very private man, there are a few things left undone, and I and Shalom M. Dunn aim to tidy those up for him as he wished. More to follow later on. We gave it our all, he fought to the end like a Lion, but the Lord outvoted us, and to the heavens Bryan went. Thank you one and all. Let us now praise the Lord's wisdom and the swift end to my brother's suffering. I know he's at peace now. We the living must go on another mile, another day. Thank you again, all of you out there."

Liam was Bryan's room mate and friend for far too many years to count. Liam was by Bryan's side all the way through his sickness and did all he could to keep everyone updated and be there for his friends. The Incipient Shire of Ravenshold has asked for donations to help Liam with some of the costs of laying his friend to rest, and to offset some of the cost of the extra bills that he will be picking up due to this loss. I am not financially set to give much of my money, but i can give of my time and some of my talents to help raise a little to help a good friend through a hard time.

So...I am offering here a custom made gorget for the winner of this auction. This auction will run from tonight until Monday Feb. 17th at midnight. To the winner i will make one custom leather gorget. on our fb site we sell these for $45 unlined, $80 lined and tooling is $12 per hour. with that said. If the auction reaches falls below $60 the buyer will get a simple gorget with some simple tooling/line work like this:

if the auction goes over $60 the gorget will be lined and padded like this (line work like above optional on the lined one):

if the auction reaches $100+ the gorget will be lined and come with custom tooling (within reason)

I will be starting the auction at $35 shipping included. 100% of proceeds will go straight to Liam to help with the costs of this great loss and will be presented to him on the 21st of this month. Lets pull through to help a deserving fellow SCAdian.
Many thanks,
Varukh

P.S. Liam knows nothing of this so if you know him please keep this under wraps.

I don't think I need a gorget, but one more can't hurt. :-)

$100...

If I win, the forget goes to someone with need...preferably to one within Svipdag Skyldissonn's sphere that he might give it to.
May God keep and bless you!
