WTB cheap starter practice armor. The rustiest crap you got!

Hello
Newbie here and I'm looking to start practicing heavy fighting ASAP, but I don't have a lot of funds. So I don't care about accuracy, period, consistency, fanciness or anything. I would really like to get my head, neck, arms and legs covered for $200 (I realize I may have to be flexible on that, but this is the ideal goal. Make me offers regardless, please) even if I look like a mismatched mess. I just want to be able to practice, once that happens I'll save up and buy a proper set. So let me know what you have! I wear either a woman's large or a man's small. I'm willing to travel with reasonable distance of Baltimore, MD to pick something up so we don't have to deal with shipping. (a couple hours, depending on what you're selling)
I am a decent seamstress, so I'm willing to trade some sewing work. I'm not super advanced; I can't make an ultra-elaborate queen's gown from scratch or anything. But I can make a good jerkin or something to that effect, and do repair work or alterations.
I already have spauldurs, and don't need to cover my left forearm, so I don't need those pieces. Other than that, let me know what you have! Thank you!

What about measurements? How tall are you and what do you weigh? I am upgrading all my gear and I may have a bunch of things you can have for free.

Oh wow, thank you! I'm 5"1, 170lbs. I don't know my measurements offhand, and my measuring tape has mysteriously vanished.... If it doesn't turn up tonight I'll pick up another tomorrow, because I kinda need one lol.

If you are in Baltimore, you are about three hours from the shop I use..We can kit someone out for roughly $200 including helm...The catch is, you have to contribute elbow grease of your own to make it happen.. The faster, more efficiently you work.. The quicker you can be set up..

That would be great! Thank you! Lemme see what other people offer me so maybe I don't have to make the full suit.
About how long does this sort of thing take? I have zero experience with this, but am super excited!

Awww, bummer.

Well, when I get my hands on a measuring tape I'll PM you my measurements just in case there's a piece or two that might work out. Individual body proportions can be funny like that sometimes.... Maybe at least a helmet if you have one you don't need. Thank you so much regardless!

I have most of a 14th century kit you could have but I am so long in the limb and body I am not sure it would work for you. Splinted hidden plastic arms and legs and a plastic corrazina.

Welcome, Elizabeth. I'm Tibbie, a rapier fighter in the Barony of Storvik, a little south of you in College Park, MD. What local practice are you going to? Bright Hills, Lochmere, something else? I ask because I know people in Lochmere, Storvik, Roxbury Mill, and Highland Foorde who could advise or help you with getting starter armor. Some of those practices have loaner armor available for newcomers. Some also have armoring sessions for new fighters.

Hello Tibbie! I've been hanging out with Lochmere, but willl probably go to some Bright Hills practices too. Thank you! Somebody actually told me to check out a Monday night practice in College Park as well, I assume that's yours?

Not to change subject. I live in Calvert County, just South of Elizabeth and Tibbie. Is there a list of practices some place? I hope to get my kit set up just around the time everyone will be back from Pennsic.

Joel,
Yes, there are a number of fighter practices around DC and Baltimore. Check out the Atlantia
webpage for more information.

Elizabeth,
If you get to Bright Hills practice, and Baron Heinrich and gang is mentioned, seek them out. I had some Heinrich armour years ago I loved!

Hi, Elizabeth. Yes, the Monday night practice in College Park is the Barony of Storvik. It's the top local armored practice. Rapier fighters and dancers have practice at the same time in other parts of the hall. (Live music for dancing plus the thwack of rattan and the tink of rapiers; it gets noisy

)
