Have new fighter WTB a helmet

Post by DanNV »

I have a new fighter here who wants to buy a helmet. He wants to do viking, so something that looks the part would be nice. He's just starting out so doesn't want to spend a great but does want one made to fit and wants it in a relatively short period of time.

Any one have some suggestions?

Have you tried Ashcraft-Baker?

Cheap newbie helms, passably early period for SCA.

Armourworks has Viking spectacle helms for a bit more. http://www.armourworks.com/

WMA has a cool blackend spangen in stock.

He'd prefer something that is likely to fit better than Ashcraft's stuff. I think he's willing to pay more as well.

Well i am not sure at what he is charging for a viking helmet but Brand Lancaster is taking orders once again.

There is an example of a the viking helms he makes on that page. When i worked with him we always sized each helm to the customer.

Thanks for the link.

Windrose does some pretty stuff. However, unless you are extremely lucky, you won't get a helmet to fit from just a brow measurement and anyone who trys to tell you you will shouldn't be making helmets.

I'll let my new guy know it's there, but Windorse needs to supply more info on the measurements of the helmet or the head it was made to fit before we'll have any idea if it will fit or not.

Actually, the circumference measurement is meant as a yard stick to see if it is even in the ball park. If it is, you are always welcome to contact me so I can let you know what other measures might be needed for the piece to work. I have found over the years, because of regional differences in the way armour gets worn, that it is easier to do the remainder of the sizing in person, or at least by email or phone.

If the brow measure is right, contact us and we can figure out if it will work with the rest of the person's gear.

Thanks. I will certainly show him the pics. I expect he'll be by in the next couple of days. We're working on getting some armor and so on done for him.

BTW, I really do like your work. My knight's lady purchased a helm from you at a war a year or two ago. Very pretty piece.
