I don't recommend you metal for cosplaying.
Weight isn't the problem, especially if light gage stainless steel is used.
The problem is that you will stand off from the other cosplayers, you'll shine...but then, you'll want more...and more...
Apparently cosplay can be addictive. Most cosplay crazed people I know buy/make at least one different cosplay for each day they spend at a con, wear it once and then forget it in some dark corner of their basement to never wear it again.
Unless youre crazy rich and you can afford to buy dozens of armour suits a year, you'll quickly regret your decision, because at the price of one armour, you could have bought the material and made dozens of fiberglass/worbla/plastidip armor.
You might think you'll enjoy to wear the same armor for months or years, but I highly doubt it. People at cons will get to used to your cosplay and you'll get less and less attention at each more con you go. You'll miss your drug. Thats why most cosplays are worn for only one day.
Oh..and another argument for fiberglass armour : if you wish to eventually compete in masquerades or other cosplay contests, they will require you to have made the costume yourself. And fiberglass armour is easy, quick to make and requires far less specialised materials and skills than steel armour.
