Historic Enterprises has a new site! (Xpost)

Post by Gwen »

We are extremely pleased to announce that Historic Enterprises has a new website!

The new site has a new look, improved navigation and best of all, online ordering and payment through a secure server!!

Although the site goes live today, we are moving servers so it will take 24-72 hours before the domain name will point you to the new site. Please bear with us during this transition phase, we think you’ll find the wait worthwhile! As with any brand new site like this you may find bugs and glitches. If you find one please feel free to email us so we can fix it.

Hey all,

We're up and running now. Yay!

That 'grand reopening special' is still in effect. Just note in the comments portion of your order that you saw the offer on the AA and if you're one of the first 10, you'll get the cert for $10!

Geary Interactive in San Diego built the site, and we LOVE it! Fantastic people to work with - responsive, innovative and unbelievable creative. We're using their proprietary e-commerce software that makes managing the site incredibly easy--even I could do it! Not cheap but well worth every penny. Highly recommended! http://www.gearyi.com/

Sorry about your wife Rod, but making it easier to order was the idea behind revamping the site in the first place.

It's funny, the acorn hats seem to be what everyone wants. I had to make up another batch of them because the first few orders wiped me out of the Large size. Flonzy, we'll be able to ship yours by early next week.

As I've said in another thread, we're going to give it about a month to work the bugs out of the new site before we add new products. We're still finding missing products and sizes and we're still adjusting the available colors in each item against current stock. Your patience is appreciated while we work out some of these issues. Expect to see new clothing and other items around March 1 and regularly thereafter.

Advance notice of new items always goes out to those on the mailing list first, so be sure to sign up if you haven't already. NB- We ONLY use the list to send out new product and specials notices; we never sell, share or otherwise compromise your privacy. We hate junk mail and spam as much as you do!

Thanks for your business-

Fantastic looking website, and it's great to see the shopping cart in it now.

Heh, I was reading the FAQ, under armour, and it says:

Armour questions:

Q: Will my armour dent?

A: No armour is indestructible. Historical field armour was intended...

And I read it as:

"No, armour is indestructible..."

And I was thinking, "What?!?!?"

Then I noticed there was no comma after "No".

Bossman didn't tell me he was raising prices...let me ask him whether what's posted is a glitch or a price increase. We have both on the site right now in various places.

Hey all,

Murdock- unless my calculator is defective or I'm having a brain cramp (which is certainly possible- I was on set for 11 hours today after only 5 hours sleep last nite), the 14th c breastplate is the same price it was on the old site -- $395 for mild and $180 additional- for a total of $575 for spring. If that's not what it was on the old site, perhaps you can refresh my memory. I don't remember changing that price for the new site.....

I did change some of the other prices on some of the other spring steel items, since my previous pricing structure wasn't logical. I also had low prices on several pieces that we had in stock and have since sold. Now they will have to be made to order, hence the increased cost, but you get a tailor-made piece now, not just something "off the peg".

As any of you who have worked in spring steel may know, it's not an easy material to use and yield perfect parts EVERY time. Sometimes plates with hours and hours of work in them will go south in heat treat and have to be remade. That must be factored into the pricing, as unfortunate as that may seem, which is why custom spring steel armour is especially pricey. Each piece is a prototype, with its own set of issues. We could work up an entire armour in the rough, then have cracks and/or distortions happen in the heat treat, since we probably haven't ever heat treated plates exactly like them before. Heat treatment is not a fool proof process and consistency is paramount. When you remove the consistency by doing custom work it gets really dicey.

I don't want to make excuses, just let everybody in on some of the intricacies of trying to do this complex craft and still make an acceptable living at it. I hope you all understand.

I've already placed my order, although I think I screwed up on the sizing. It's so depressing when I order on-line. I'm not _that_ big -- 6'2", 225lbs. -- why is it that I always feel like Frankenstein's monster when I try to buy clothes?

grumble, grumble ... wanna doublet... grumble, grumble.

In any case, don't apologize for your prices. You are expensive, but if you weren't you would soon be out of business. If your product is worth it, don't be ashamed to ask for some money.

Heya Wolf, don't sweat it man, he's not flaming you. Trust me on that one.

Periodically Jeff needs to post why it is that spring steel costs more. Not everybody knows what's involved or why the price is higher, so your comments just made him realize it was time again. No worries, really.
