One pair of "caterpillar" style 14th century hourglass style gauntlets, made by Andrey Galevskiy. Made to fit Medium size hand - roughly 7.5" to 8.5" around the knuckles. Located in San Diego, CA.
PRICE: $550 USD
Features: Stainless steel (1.2mm, roughly 16 ga.); brass knuckle plates; brass decoration with etching at the cuff; FULLY ENCLOSED THUMB TIP; cloth gloves already sewn in and ready to use.
These gauntlets are made for Battle of the Nations/ACL/HMB style combat, and as such they are absolutely indestructible. They will save your hands from even the hardest blows. Please note: Because of this, the thumb is constructed with a hard rivet attachment at the base. This means you can take a full-power pollaxe blow to the thumb without injury (probably!), but it does limit the mobility of the thumb somewhat. If you want to use this for lighter combat, such as SCA fighting, it would be a very easy mod to remove this single rivet and replace it with a short leather hinge that would greatly increase the mobility of the thumb - and would still be very safe for that style of fighting. As the gauntlets are made (and as I am offering them) the fingers have excellent flexibility (for mitten gauntlets), and the thumb has outstanding protection with somewhat limited mobility. Please let me know if you have any specific questions after looking at the photos.
The gauntlets are brand new, and unused. (Unfortunately, they are just a bit too snug for me. My knuckles measure 8 3/4", and I can get my hand in, but they are just a bit too small to wear comfortably.)
These gauntlets would be a beautiful addition to any 14th c. kit for someone who wants to look great in full-contact battle with rattan or steel weapons.
