I thought this may interest some here. I've listed it on ebay. Antique Pewter Beer Stein/Server 20" Antique Pewter Niche Beer Stein/Server Occupational Blacksmith or Farrier, one who shoes horses. by A.Weygang of Germany, made in the c.1890s. Excellent condition, except for the smiths hammer handle being slightly bent and two very small shallow dents close together near the bottom of the handle on the rounded bowl. see pics. Nice patina. Very large size, a little over 20" tall. This was made in the style of the 16th and 17th century's. Has medallion in bottom inside center with kings head and date 1628. Makers mark and spurious 17th cent mark. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Its big and heavy, quite ornate. These were made in the style of the 16th and 17th century guild serving flagons.

That is cool Otto. It has a good silhouette correct for that time period.

Thanks John, It holds a lot of beer! LOL I have a feeling if I sell it I may end up kicking myself in the arse for letting it go. If it doesn't sell soon I may just keep it. My Uncle, grandfather and great grandfather (came to the US in 1857) were blacksmiths. I also recently found out one of my great great ect grandfathers on my mothers side who was "transported" to Virginia in 1677 was a blacksmith as well. He was a colorful character. Got thrown into the stockade in New Plantation ( later named Williamsburg) after getting into a dispute with a neighbor. He then bugged out and started his own colony. He was French Huguenot and probably didnt get along well with the English. Or may have just been an asshat. Kicked out of France, kicked out of England and kicked out of Williamsburg! LOL. Anyway.. Its one of my great regrets that I didn't learn the trade from my uncle when I was a kid.
