I think Siegfried has the best product for the price:

Iolo's bows are legendary:

And I very much like Pennthar's stuff:

What I am basically looking for are like 4 or 5 crossbows for our group to use in setting up a "Knick-a-Knight' shooting gallery at a local fair to raise money for a charity.

Hi!

I offer crossbows made of wood and bamboo, and I have two types of boffer bolts as well.

Here you can see a pic of the crossbows with th efirst type of bolt:

Image

The crossbows are 45$ each, the bolts are 12$/4bolts. The bolts are fine if you wear some kind of face protection and sturdy clothing. They are made from high quality scothguard foam and glued on fabric. They do not have flights. Remember this is a Europeans standpoint on this :)

The other bolts you can see in this pic. They have flights and the tip is sturdier and a bit softer. These are 10$/1 bolt. These are the bolts used in almost all European LARP and boffer groups.

Best regards

Sebastian

You might try Iron Angel Forge. His crossbow stuff is at http://www.ironangel.com/crossbow.html; he sells them starting at $135. Not sure about his availability to do them, or the quality of the final product. Perhaps someone else listening can vouch for them.

Also, I hear Lord Brun Canutesson out in the Middle Kingdom makes a nice crossbow and sometimes has them in stock. He doesn't have a web site, but I can dig up his email address for you if you'd like.

Assuming you want something with a little punch, I can't imagine getting one for much less than that, unless you happen to find one used (which is rare - people tend to keep them) or are willing to build them yourself.

If Sebastian's will work for you, that may be the way to go.

If they are to be used in a shooting gallery against live targets wearing SCA armor, I would strongly recommend that you use SCA-approved missiles, and provide goggles for the participants.
