Birka Lamellar Plate Order

Post by Seawolf »

I contacted the company that did the original order (I think that I bought around 5000 SS and 700 Alum) several years ago for the Birka Lamellar plates.
They are putting a quote togther for me for more plates in the following materials: Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Brass and Titainium. If anyone might be interested in doing another bulk order please post here. I am purchaseing some more no matter what. The more that are made, The cheaper they are. I should have preliminary prices by the middle of next week. I want to finalise this with a few weeks (Yes I remember how long the first one took) :-)

Hi

I would be interested in Titanium as well.
Need to sort out the shipping, if its possible, since I live in Sweden.

I order most of my armor from US, so it should be duable.

Let me know the price, when you got it.

On the mild steel question. You would need enough people to order atleast 5000 pieces to make it affordable.

If the alloy, thickness (and Price) are right, I may be interested in 400ish aluminum.

Ok the quote is in. Please remember that this is for the plates only. Shipping will be extra. Once we have a confirmed order I can get an exact quote on shipping and break it dow per plate. I will break down the order and reship it out to everyone for costs (boxes, shipping etc). The minimum order is 2000 per material type. The Turn-around time is 5-8 weeks after the order is placed with the production company, Because of that I want to place the order before April 30, May 15 at the latest. Please place your orders below and we will arrange for payment. Payment will be required when the order is submitted for production.

Brass 260 1/2 hd .050 thk.
2000 - $.635
5000 - $.60
10,000 - $.555

Aluminum 6061-T6 .050 thk.
2000 - $.48
5000 - $.45
10,000 - $.43

Stst 304 .035 thk.
2000 - $.38
5000 - $.355
10,000 - $.34

Titanium .028 thk.
2000 - $1.45
5000 - $1.34
10,000 - $1.205

Here's my order...

Post by Fionn »

Count me in!
I would order 500 aluminum.
Great idea to arrange this here. I'll pass on this to other fighters in my area. After all, the more you order the cheaper the price.
Please keep us up to date on the whole deal.

Thanks!

I can't swing 2000 plates of Ti at this time. If you get a bulk and can sell 300-400 plates I could do that. Sorry if I misspoke myself.

Just to clarify, We need 2000 total per material type not per person. If we can get 4 people to order 500 each to total 2000 then we are ok...

How many dose it usually take to make a set? I wear a 42 long suit jacket if that helps for measurements.

Depending on the size of the individual around 300-400 for body only and 600-700 for body, shoulders and thighs.

So far there is only a commitment for 500 Alum and 500 Titanium. If no one else is interested I am going to let this drop.

Actually Seawolf your numbers are alittle escued.

I am 6,1 300+ pnds and have a 52-54 chest. I have a rig of the plates you all are ordering. My rig runs about 260 plates. I have 3 rows of 60 plates and 2 rows up front of about 15 and 10 and 2 rows in the back fo 20 and 15.

The best way to figure out how many you will need is this. The plate are roughly about 1.25" wide and 4" tall. You have to have about 1/4 inch over lap on each plate. So, you are looking at a 1" x 3.75" exposed area. Now measure your waist/chest and then measure how "tall" you want your rig to be. For the waist chest measurement the number should be a 1:1 ratio. ie, 60 inch chest=60 plates around. VERY IMPORTANT: (measure yourself with ALL your garb for fighting on AND any other padding that you are planning on using. Otherwise your rig will be to small)

For the length factor. Divide your length by 3.75. ie, 20 inch length=5.333333 rows tall. Or 5 rows or 6 rows depending on if you want it taller or shorter. DO ALL YOUR MEASUREMENTS STANDING UP. And if at all possible have someone else measure you so you will get a "more true" measurement.

This is pretty good way to guesstimate how many plates you will need to make a rig.
