I am interested in the two large shirts for SCA combat. But I have a bunch of questions since I have never actually worn or owned chain before. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

1. I have about a 50-51 inch chest and I am looking for a shirt to wear over a gambeson and beneath a churburg breatplate. Would these fit do you think?

2. Will these shirts hold up for SCA combat? I have noticed that you make a distinction between combat grade and non-combat grade shirts.

3. How long is the 10mm shirt and is it short sleeve or long sleeve?

4. I have already purchased a round ring, round rivet aventail from Mandrake. How will wearing a two different styles of maille look together? Optimally I want to have everything match eventually but I have already purchased and customized the aventail and I don't have the funding to buy another at this time.

5. Lastly, can you give me an estimated weight on the shirts? Just curious.

Thanks for your time,

1. I have about a 50-51 inch chest and I am looking for a shirt to wear over a gambeson and beneath a churburg breastplate. Would these fit do you think?

These listed will be too small, I think I have a 60" we can try but I think you are looking at special order.

2. Will these shirts hold up for SCA combat? I have noticed that you make a distinction between combat grade and non-combat grade shirts.

All of the steel/stainless will hold up fine. My combat shirts are optimized for price at the expense of some historical accuracy.

3. How long is the 10mm shirt and is it short sleeve or long sleeve? 32" long and short sleeve.

5. Lastly, can you give me an estimated weight on the shirts? Just curious.

these shirts listed are 19-20 pounds, a custom large would be 22 or so.

I think the flat ring will look fine with the round aventail, it is the finish that matters more in matching them.

:( Just when I though I found one. Thanks for the help.

I don't think that I will be able to afford a custom shirt but I am not sure. I have looked around and inquired here on the AA without success. I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

1. Can you provide custom riveted shirts?

2. If so, how much would one run including the shipping?

3. How long would it take to get one?

4. What type of riveted mail could you get custom sized with a 60' chest?

5. What would be the cheapest?

Thanks again for your time,

1. Can you provide custom riveted shirts? Yes

2. If so, how much would one run including the shipping? It really depents on ring type and size. I may even have a 60" chest now, I will look.

3. How long would it take to get one? 1-2 months if I have to get it made.

5. What would be the cheapest?
I like the 10mm flat mail with round rivets, it is the cheapest and looks great. Smaller (8 or 9mm) rings look better but add weight and that is important for fighting shirts. wedge rivets add cost and are no better for SCA except for the "cool" factor.

Karl

I wanted to know if there will be loose rings in the 8mm to customize shirts some day.

spare rings

Post by sussen »

I have twenty or so pounds of spare rings, modifications are no problem but I dont want to sell bulk rings to anyone who has not bought a shirt right now.

Cool, I was wondering so I could modify a shirt if I got one from you. I find 48 shirts just a tad tight across the chest and arms.

Again thanks for all of the help.

How much would it run including shipping for a shirt of 10mm flat mail with round rivets and long sleeves for a 60" chest? How much of a price difference would it be for short sleeves?

special shirt

Post by sussen »

Here is what I can do. I have a 60" chest shirt right here ready. It is flat ring, 10mm round rivit, galvanized finish. 20 pounds. $600/free shipping if you want this one. 10 day inspection/return. If we need to special order something, the price will go up to $700 for this size.

If the shirt is 32 inches long or so (around mid thigh or longer on someone 6' tall) then I'll take it!

How should I get in touch to make the transaction?

THIS IS WHY THE ARMOUR ARCHIVE EXISTS. COOL ARMOURER HOOKS UP WITH CUSTOMER, AND EVERYBODY IS HAPPY. THE CURRENT MEDIEVAL WORLD IS NOW POPULATED WITH ANOTHER GUY WEARING RIVETTED MAIL.
Makes me want to get rid of ALL off-topic discussion.

what about for us larger lads....

I have a 56 inch Chest..... thats the widest part of my body so if it fits there, it will fit anywhere.

I would like something to go with my lamellar and also to wear with my earlier period pas protrayal
