I want to buy a cheap shirt of leather scale mail, i need it for one of my buddies, im giving it to him as a christmas present.

Hmmm, that's an interesting piece in the first image you show. Obviously a fantasy piece, but with some good historic background, if you look into the right cultures:p

Anyway, I don't think you'll find anyone to MAKE you the shirt for under $200. But, might I suggest an even cheaper solution? I'm sure that you could find someone, like Frank from Viking Leathercrafts, to set you up with this idea. I saw a thread he started at a couple of forums stating that he had been having lots of "extra" leather, that he was planning on making into scale blanks, and sell incredibly cheap.

With these, which would likely cost you between $50 and $100, you can then harden and waterproofed them, make/buy a shirt to attach it to, and sew them on yourself. This will be a more personal gift, and a lot cheaper;)

Although, you'd have to do this all rather quickly to get it to him by Christmas. If you like the idea, you may want to work it all out with Frank, or someone else who can supply them to you (maybe even pre-hardened/waterproofed) and just give your buddy an I.O.U. I'm sure he wouldn't mind, once he got the shirt!

Well, that sounds like the way to go, then, in time for the holidays! I myself am going to make my own scale shirt based on a historic Egyptian find in the burial of King Tut. But, I do love your shirts, Torvaldr! Now only $225, 'eh? Your site says $400 up... Is it a holiday sale? Sounds like a very good deal, nonetheless!

Since when did Joan of Arc wear scale? Now if we were talking Joan of Byzantium or something that'd be one thing. Though I suppose in theory she *could* have worn it, but I doubt it.

God I hate the multitudes of false mass marketed and produced shit on the market perpetuating the vicious cycle of arms and armour dummies. The Ebay helms (like those aluminum ones the asshole was calling "the real thing...NOT toys...etc), the LARP and costume armours labled "battle ready" etc etc...gives the real craftspeople and armourers a hard time.

Alright I spoke with the gentleman from Skaldic.com. I think my friend would really like the green leaf armour, but if any one can get me enough leather (hardened) scales to make a shirt then you have my bid. I'll take the cheapest i can get, but i need to know soon.

Trust me Im a chain smith, i know what it's like to say up all night to finnish a project. nicotein and mt. dew....LOL.

I also noticed on that Joan of Arc shirt...its labeled as having a celtic design on the chest. How nice...not only is it quite a few centuries off from joans time, it also features a decorative device not even remotely associated with French Joan...how quaint. Gimme a kilt with fleur de lis on it! Or how about a Papal robe with the Star of David on it...or maybe I'll drive an F150 with a nice shiny Hyandai marque on the grill, you know, cuz its cool looking.

LOL of course of course. I hate it as well. i love fantasy and I am quite the historian....they should stay seperate. I dunno why it is labeled as Joan d' Arc but oh well, what are you gonna do?

Many's the time I think I'm over pricing stuff, yet it still flies of the shelf. Remember, we are a "luxury provider"... We make our money from people with more money than sense. I imagine most people here began making armour for the same two reasons as I, 1) you could not afford to buy it, and 2)because you love it.

What we do is art. Each piece hand-made and original. People aren't paying just for your time, materials and skill, they are paying for your vision, your imagination, your ability to take a thought and form it from raw materials into a three dimensional, functional, wearble piece of art.

time+materials+profit can't cover that intangible.
