in the helmet market

Post by Ldy Wu »

Not that Sir Richard's and AB's work isn't absolutely dazzling (cuz it is) but I'm afraid I can't afford anything that pretty. Could one of you big strong men-folk  direct me to a good site for helmets? I've already checked Knotwolf.com, Icefalcon.com etc etc. I can't seem to find anything that meets the need within my price range. A little help? My thanks in advance. Feel free to pm.

First off, Patrick Thaden is putting some sweet helms made in his shop on AA lately. And for very modest prices. I'd contact him first. He has a fixed grill basinet for $270 in-stock

If you want the real budget stuff there's Ashcraft Baker. They're plain but I have never heard anything negative about them other than that.

Steve of Forth Armoury has s/s pignose bascinets back in stock at $240.

James River Armories has a Pembridge on e-bay for $165

Clang lists a greathelm in stock for $175.00

Beathan has got a bunch of less-expensive helmets, but you'll have to ask which are SCA list-worthy:

Here's a cool-looking helm from DeKeyser at a very reasonable price:

Von Sussen is offering this on e-bay:

Does this help?

I bought one of the Van Sussen basinets...lovely helm...really small. Wouldn't fit anyone with more than a 22 inch melon with SCA padding..and the bar grill is really short. so if you have a smallish head, it is a great deal.

I bought a pembridge from Boldosarmoury.com it's really nice

I have worked with Iron Monger Armoury in the past and have been very happy with price and service.

SOFC's helms (from the 2 I've seen/ hndled) are built to last, and will fit your melon without killing your wallet. the only drawback is the limited # of styles

The one on the Right is mine. I'm looking for $175 for it <plus shipping>.

Will fit 23" head fine.

Minor modifications include, 8 - 1/4" x 1" slats under cross for visibility < 4 on each side >, and small holes around perimiter for period liner.

Pictures avaliable upon request.

Cheers

P.S. M'lady, If your art is in the Textile industry, we may also be able to barter for said heume. Please P.M. me if this does indeed intrest you?

I just bought a helm top from ironmonger armory. Payed $65, for the helm top, with a custom ridge, custom made for my head, and shipping. An excellent deal. It is excellent quality. He has a full bascinet, with face grill for $125. I would recomend buying it. It is the munitions grade. It is painted instead of being highly polished. I do not want to speak for Eric, but I am sure it could be custom made to fit your size of head. (not sure if that would cost extra or not). Best bet would be to give him a call, and see what he can do for you.

Good luck.
