I am looking for a set of used, full fingered gauntlets, non stainless, non plastic.

Anyone have anything they want to get rid of cheap?

I have some mild & stainless hour-glass demos and samples. If your interested let me know. I will try to sell/trade them here then on e-bay

I was still intrested in those but never got a reply in my topic after requesting pics .

I dont want to steal them from Draco so if he wants them thats cool. But some pics would be nice.

Well, I've got a set that I've only used once - I managed to snag a pair of stainless bell cuffs, so I don't actually need 'em anymore.

If you're interested, make me an offer. They're in good shape, they've just got a shade of surface rust on them.

Don't worry, whonew says that he's got both mild and stainless. You're looking for mild, I'm looking for stainless.

Perhaps I need to clarify on this. I am looking at a pair no more than $125. I have to replace my broken steel longsword that surprisingly retired on me during a demo at a ren faire last month so right now, that takes priority.

IMHO, you are not in a realistic price range for any form of finger gauntlet.

I have seen lots for sale from czech for around 200 new so when I say used, I dont think thats really out of the question.

It may well be out of the question if you're trying to get a pair of American-made ones.

Most armourers on this forum that make finger gauntlets agree on one thing--truly protective finger gauntlets are a bitch to make. Since they are so difficult to make, they charge accordingly. It all depends on the armourer's time--and most people who have spent between $300.00 - $600.00 per pair at least want to recoup what they paid, with a slight depreciation.

For the nonce, you might consider saving up the money for a new, Czech pair of gauntlets. I doubt very much you'll get anyone to sell you a pair of used finger gauntlets for $125.00. Your only other option is to purchase a pair of steel half-gauntlets, and attempt to make the finger lames yourself.

There are a number of patterns online - namely the Thor Z ones. That might be an inexpensive option for you.

Mike: I'm with Will on this... I don't think you WANT a cheap set of finger gauntlets. If they do the job, that's one thing, but I'd be shocked if you actually got a set of gauntlets that can take an SCA pounding for $125. If you're only going to use them for RF demos and the like, I'm still not sure you'd be wise to expose your fingers to that.

But hey, they're your fingers. If you find a set that work worth a darn, let me know. If you've got the link to the Czech ones, that wouldn't hurt to see either.

I never said I was SCA. I use wasters and steel. And the minimums I have in our group are much less than what the SCA uses. I still dont see why its so difficult, but I will just use the padded Revival gloves I have coming and that should suit me just fine.

I don't think I said you were SCA, either. Just offered some options. And by way of observation, Blackbow was covering his bases by bringing up both SCA and steel combat.

My suggestion still stands that you could probably make what you need with a limited amount of steel, a couple of well-built patterns and a little bit of time. And considering how inexpensive a pair of steel half-gauntlets would cost, you could make your own finger gauntlets.

But I suppose you could go with the padded Revival gloves, if that's what'cha got...

My wife is looking to sell her James Gallespie finger gauntlets to replace them with Clay's.

250 would take them, they sell for over 500 at Illusion. They are in very good shape and are for a medium sized hand. Blue gloves, and brass gadlings.

I think the advice given is pretty sound. But I think you need to clarify what TYPE of finger gauntlets you are looking for to.

The type that most are refering to is the 14th century style with carpal and metacarpal plates with attached gadlings.

Although honestly $125.00 for finger gauntlets are definately a "diamond in the rough" find.

It always strikes me as strange that people want to spend the least on protecting the parts that get hit the most, are the most brittle, and are the most vital for the day to day mundane work. Gauntlets almost seem like an after thought for way too many people.

I finally sold a pair of Wisby gauntlets that I had laying around for $300 and took a huge loss on them. I spent about 50 dollars on materials and they took about 20 hours to complete. They will probably be the last pair I make as for that kind of money my time can be better spent doing other things. It's a shame the market price doesn't reflect what goes into this style of gauntlet or more people would be making them. Not me though ,for 12.50/hour I won't be making anymore and at $125 I'd be making less than my daughter at Burger King.

I make gauntles [wisby & hourglass] because I really enjoy it not for a living. Sure I could sell[give away] sets real cheap but I REFUSE to being part of ruining a market for "real artists" trying to make a living! Apologies for rant go here _____ Les the ameteur armourer
